The Hidden Life of Rowena Foribe * NANOWRIMO 2017*

The life of a witch who had lived most of her life without knowing who or what she truly is. Upon walking into a classroom and getting a project she dives deep into her family history. Finding things that she didn't know and overhearing things that she shouldn't know about. Seeing things that she shouldn't. She is about to turn 15 years old and that is when the first sighs of a witch come out. She can choose to go with them and see where the journey will take her or she can be like her family and turn her back on the Goddess and magic and powers. Rowena is just a normal 14-year-old high school student. Slacking in a few classes but good on most of her classes. Rowena has a few friends but her best friend that she tells everything, Eva Flixnet, who is in most of her classes.

6. Goddess Isis Books and Gifts

We meet at the café that was closest to me but far enough that it would take too long to walk to. Getting off the bus I meet with Eva inside Kaladi Coffee Roasters. The smell, as always, is of really strong coffee. I might not like the smell of coffee or the taste of coffee but they do sell some very nice tea. I ordered a small glass of herbal tea with lots of honey. Honey made anything better. The sweet taste of the tea calmed my nerves like nothing else would. The hot scent making my mind slow so I could think things through. Eva orders an Affogato. She seemed to like those so that is what she got. We sat down at a table facing the sun. It felt nice to be in the sun again. Eva and I talked for while until the sun started to set. We both got up and walked toward the shop. It was still open but we both paused.

"Alright, time to get in gear and go ask some questions. Ready Rowena?" Eva asked me as we were both outside the shop. It looked like your everyday shop. I might have passed this about 100 times before I would have guessed this to be a Wicca shops. I didn't say anything. I was too busy just looking at the shop. Someone walked out of it and straight towards us. It was then I knew that it was the shopkeeper.

"May I help you two?" She asked in a music sounding voice. Eva nodded and I just stood to look at the ground. "You don't need to be afraid. I am not going to curse you or anything. Come on in. Where I can help you find your book," She said and took my hand. I took Eva's almost instantly in a hold tight enough that Eva was trying to take my hand out. I was leinto the store and into a back room. The moment the door opened that end to outside my smell was bombarded with incenting and candles burning the heat from inside was comfort from the fall breezes. I sighed as the warmth came in around me from all sides and my grip on Eva dropped. I looked around and saw that everything was perfect in here. "My you are indeed a powerful person," The lady holding my hand said.

She stopped and waved her hand around the store. All the candles went out in a heartbeat. Smiling she looked over at Eva who was lost in a world of candles and books. I looked at me seeing the crystals and decks of tarot cards. It was amazing. She led me over to the Crystals first and picked up one and put it in my hand. I didn't know about it until the crystal was fully in my hand. But eyes though were locked on one stone in particular. She followed my eyes and saw that it was a moonstone. I set the crystal she gave me down and picked up the moonstone. I felt like I had just picked up power. Looking over I saw that everything looked different. She seemed to understand what held my gaze and smiled. "Your crystal. The one crystal meant for you. So many people come in here trying to find it but they never have any luck," She said and put an arm around me before turning me to walk towards the back room. I let her take me to the back room and make me a glass of green tea with a lot of honey in it.

In the quiet, I had forgotten about the time I needed to be home by and Eva. I felt so bad about it but nothing that I could do. She was going to close down soon and was going to kick us out with everything. I was shocked when she looked over at the clock to see that it wasn't moving. "I put an enchantment on this place. Nothing is moving but us in this room. Eva who is out there is not moving frozen in time for a little bit. Hard magic but it is easy to do once you have enough power," She said holding her cup of tea. I hadn't talked once during this whole outing and was starting to feel bad. She smiled and set down her tea. I followed and took the hand she offered to help me up. Walking out into the storeroom I saw Eva frozen and then start to move again. Time was back to mention. "What would your last name be, Rowena?" The store lady asked.

"Foribe," I muttered under my breath, but she heard me. Or at least I think she did by the gasp that she gave out when I said it.

"You're the daughter of..." She muttered something under her breath without finishing the sentence. She was starting to just stare at me. "Oh, Goddess could I have finally met the most powerful witch family?" She muttered staring at me like I was going to shapeshift and fly away. "I am so sorry if I am seeming rude but I didn't know that I was in the company of such a powerful witch family. At least the daughter of one," She said looking or at Eva who was just watching us like we had lost our minds.

"So, let me get this straight," Eva started when we had gotten back to my house. It had started to get dark and so I said that we would be back tomorrow again. When we might have some more time to talk to each other and so she could tell me more about what she says I am. "You are a witch. But your moms not. And you come from a powerful family that has like a whole thing about them. Even a website telling others about witches?" Eva asked me for the 5th time. Nodding my head, I flicked my hand towards the water to show Eva that I was a witch. "You have got to be shitting me!" She yelled finally.

"Alright, Eva. I told you that you're spending the night and it is almost midnight. My parents are trying to sleep. How about we do the same thing?" I asked but the look on her face told me that wasn't going to happen. "Okay then. How about you came it down then while you ask the same questions over and over again?" I asked her. She sighed and ran her hand through her hair again. "And stop doing that you always do that when you're about to flip," I told her. She shot me a nasty look before pacing my room again. "Come on Eva sit down so we can get our project done that way class is easy when we get back," I told her. She sighed and sat down on my bed again. I was up late tonight and once we get to a goodish stopping point we will head down to the basement and get some sleep before I have to get up and go to the bookstore again.

I looked over at my notebook and saw the words that I hadn't yet written down. I was going to bring my notebook to the bookstore with me tomorrow so I could take some notes on my family history. We had started working and then fell asleep halfway through it.

I woke up with a piece of paper on my face and sweat pouring down from my face. Looking at it was just being to be morning and I was burning which if I was correct, wasn't good for anything around me. I tour the paper off my face and touched nothing with my hands. I was very close to yelling for my mom when she came in. "Not again," She muttered before she ran over to Eva and threw a blank at her. She threw a blanket over herself and waited. I was just watching them do that thinking that they were doing something very silly when I felt the glass of three-day-old water spill on my hands. Everything was cold after that. I wanted to say something but my mom came out of the blanket and sighed. "Good. Breakfast is ready... What is that?" My mom asked looking at my hand and paper. I looked down and saw that there was a circle on my hand with four little leaf looking things on it all meeting in the center of it. I looked over at my paper to try and get the image to go away in my head. My paper was covered with water and words when it was empty last night. Looking over at the paper the words were all about my history. I was shocked that I was able to have some many things about the project without knowing anything of what I was saying.

My silence was the answer and my mom took my hand and hauled me down to the table. My father sitting down was shocked to see that we were rushing down the steps. Eva was still asleep in my room. "Okay, we have a problem. Honey, do you believe me now?" My mom asked my dad and showing my hand to him. His eyes grew big and he looked right in my eyes. I wanted to start crying from being looked at like this thing that wasn't supposed to happen. My mom's turn to stare at me, she spun me to face her and looked me in the eye telling me, "You are doing something. You are going to hurt yourself. You need to stop this or be warned that this is a danger think that you're doing." The look in my mom's eyes told me that she didn't want me to be brushing off her words so lightly. This was a serious thing.
