Good things come to those who wait.
This too shall pass
No baby can ever replace another, every single baby is unique and precious, some are born and others aren't, any child that is born following a child that died isn't a replacement, they are just a longed for sibling and a gift to their family

9. Last Resort

Lana’s POV

I stand in Hope’s nursery or what would’ve been. I’ve envision six children sleeping in this room and none of them have survived. I hug the pink teddy bear and stand in all black with pink getting ready for Hope’s funeral. I fall to my knees and pray to the Lord above.

“Lord, you have six of my children. I beg you please give me at least one?”

“Lana, it’s time to go.”

I get back to my knees and carry the teddy bear. We get into the car and drive to the funeral home. A tiny black coffin is set up. It’s open casket and people pass by staring down at her. Dr. Weaver’s there and she gives me a big hug. I walk over to my baby’s casket and place the teddy bear in with her. Her face is covered with a pink blanket and she’s all dressed up in a pink dress that’s way too big.

People say a funeral for a stillborn is stupid but at least I didn’t do funerals for my miscarriages. One of my children is still inside my best friend because she died when she was surrogating for me. So no, a funeral for a baby born dead and two months before she was supposed to be born isn’t stupid.

I sit down and start crying. I want my baby. I want my baby and now I can’t have her. Tomorrow, Fred and I are going to the adoption agency to be put on the waiting lists to adopt a child. We want a baby but we’ll be happy with any little girl from anywhere in the world.

Fred and I drive away from the funeral with peace in our hearts. We have dinner at our favorite restaurant and go to bed early. We wake up the next morning and get ready to go to the agency. I wear a nice dress and Fred wears a suit. Then I decide that we should go as ourselves.

“Fred but on just some nice clothes.”

I throw on a pair of jeans and my flats with a nice blouse before leaving the house. Little Angel’s Adoption Agency is in the center of the city. It’s surrounded by huge skyscraper’s and is this tiny little office building. We sit in the waiting room before being called back. Fred just squeezes my hand.

We stand up and follow the secretary to the office. We sit down in the chairs in front of Mr. Montgomery and he smiles before proceeding.

“Why do you want to adopt?”

“Because we want a baby. We’ve lost six children. Five miscarriages and one stillbirth.”

“So, can’t conceive or can’t carry to term?”

“Have you tried surrogacy?”

“Twice both attempts failed.”

“How old are you both?”

“30 and 31”

“How long have you been married?”

“Six years.”

“Names…including middle and maiden.”

“Lana Maria Parrilla and Alfredo James Diblasio.”

“What are you looking for in a child?”

“Doesn’t matter we just want one to love.”

“Okay we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.”

“Thank you Mr. Montgomery.”
