3. Chapter 3- Ashmere Valley High

When I walked in to the school I didn't expect everyone to be in the hallways. Sadly, they were and everyone looked at me, and I do mean every single person lingering in the hallways were drinking me in.

I gulped but I kept my head held high and walked straight through the hallway with everyone watching my every move. Some were glaring while others were shocked. I was starting to shake with nervousness everyone's eyes on me.

As I got to the door that said main office I nervously looked back to everyone in the hallway. They were still looking at me, some glaring, some awkwardly staring, and the rest just not surprised at all. I don't understand how they all could be intimating as they were. It definitely made me feel like I was not welcomed here at all.

When I went inside the office I could still feel the students staring. It was starting to get to me when I heard the door open. As I turned around I seen him.

"No, this isn't happening. Someone pinch me, please?" I whispered.

"Ouch!" I yelped. It snapped me out of thoughts, which helped me a bit. I looked up at the boy who looked so much like Bentley from my dream, it was scary.

"Well you said someone pinch me, so I did." He said with a shrug of his shoulders. I just glared at him until he smirked.

"Why do you keep looking at me like that? You know your face will get suck like that if you don't quit." He chuckles.

I roll my eyes as he straightens up when another door opens to his brother Brantley.

"Why are you doing this to me?" I whisper once again while looking up.

"Who are you talking too, newb?" Brantley says in a despising tone.

"Definitely not you." I responded coldly back to this very similar look a like to Brantley.

"Or you." I told the other brother.

"So we're the Wolfe brothers, if you can't tell." Bentley said while slinging his arm around his brother's neck.

"I kind of figured, you two look a like." I smiled sweetly at them both but this time I caught the secretary looking at the three of us as if were her amusement for the day.

Both brothers smirked at one another. Suddenly they both growled and their eyes turned a bright burnt orange honey color. I squeaked out a little scream when I seen their eyes. Brantley and Bentley turned towards the receptionist and smiled. I seen their four teeth widen and sharpen. The receptionist gulped and bowed her head.

"I-I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to be rude. It's-It's just, um. Never mind." I heard her stutter out.

"Now, please give us Liara's schedule please. We'll escort her to class." Brantley growled.

"Sure. Let me go get it." She said quickly before racing off to get my schedule for the day.

As soon as the sectary was out of sight both the brothers turned towards me and smiled. Well Brantley was looking at me with an odd look. Bentley was displeased with looking at me. I only half smiled at them then started to advert my gaze when Brantley came up really close to me. I backed up when he started to reach for me.

"What are you doing?" I asked him. I bit my lip when I heard a door shut. I jumped when I see the secretary walk by the desk.

"Well aren't you jumpy today." I heard Bentley comment. I rolled my eyes and smiled at the women, whom now sat at the desk.

"Thanks Terri." Brantley smiled then winked at her.

"Alright you, come with us." Bentley used a stern tone with me. I glared at him, I mean seriously he's had something out for me since I've been here this morning. I haven't done anything except look at him. Was that a crime or something?

"Don't be bothered by Bentley, he's a sour puss." Brantley sauntered over towards me when we left the office. The hallways were empty but every now and then you would see a couple of students wondering around. When we walked past them they would stand their mouths agape. I didn't understand what the big deal was.

To me they were probably a pain in the rear-end on a daily basis. With a short walk later we ended up arriving to my first class of the day. I reached for the doorknob but suddenly Bentley got in front of the door.

"Wh-what are you doing? I thought I had to go inside the classroom to get the credit here?" I said confusingly.

"First, before you can go inside to get your credit there's two rules here that you have to know. Since your a newb the first rule don't start fights, it will end badly for you, trust me because I'm the one who usually has to break them up. Secondly, Brantley or myself will come escort you to every class this week or if you still don't feel comfortable we'll help you next week as well. You get everything that I just said?" He smirked a little as I only one sharp nod.

If I didn't know better, he was actually being nice to for the first time since I got here this morning. I peeked over at Brantley whom was now scowling at his brother. Bentley moved over next to wall as the door started to open.

As I went for the door I looked over at the two brothers staring, well actually glaring at one another. "Um, thanks. Both of you." I told them. Before I went inside I heard Bentley say to Brantley "Don't get close to her because she is mine, brother." I then peeked outside the door to Bentley walking away. I then looked quickly to Brantley and seen him catch my gaze. He scowled at me, then walk in the opposite direction.

The door clicked shut and I turned around to see everyone in the room looking at me. I gulped. So many people, I thought. I didn't like talking in front of crowds.

"I take it you must be the new girl, Liara Huddleston, right?" The teacher said to me glaring at me from underneath her glasses with beads trailing from the sides of glasses to her ears.

I nodded and said "YesLiarathatsme."

"What you say, girl?" A student yelled at me. Some of the students snickered. I looked down at my sneakers and blushed. The snickers suddenly stopped and I slowly turned to look at who was behind me.

"Sorry Ms. Talon I ran a little late." I snapped my head up to see Brantley smiling at the teacher.

"Come on let's sit beside each other, shall we?" I nodded as Brantley took my hand in his. His skin was so warm I noticed. As we sat down beside each other he never let go of my hand.

"Liara darling come up here and get two text books please. Once you sit back down turn to page 36 we are just now learning about body functions." Ms. Talons asked me. I didn't want to let go of his hand.

Before I got up he leaned over and whispered "Don't worry I'm not going to leave you. I promise." I nodded and reluctantly let go of his hand. As I walked up to the front of the class room to get the books I almost tripped over someone's foot. "Sorry." I mumbled.

The second I walked back the same person stuck out their foot again. Before I could fall Brantley was there holding me steady. He took the books but glared over at the boy who was just chuckling.

He took my hand again at we sat together at the table. "Thanks." I mumbled to him. He just squeezed my hand. I looked up at him and seen him looking at me. His eyes were a royal blue but around his iris was gold ring around it. I bit my lip and wondered how his eyes did that, mine were a normal blue with my almost platinum blond hair. He smiled that almost took my breath away.

"Don't-don't do that." I whispered to him.

"Why not? Does it make your heart beat faster than normal?" He teased, in a whisper.

I gasped, then gulped. I leaned back a little from him and tore my gaze away from his. Some of the students were looking at us with a wondering gaze of their own. Ms. Talon looked up a couple times but didn't say anything. She did look at us a little more often than anyone else, though.

Brantley's hand then went up towards my wrist. It sent shivers down my spine. He then pulled on the bracelet that mom had given me that morning.

"Make sure you wear this at all times. It'll keep you protected." He whispered in my ear. His breath on my ear gave me cold chills. I then looked to him and noticed we were so close his lips could've brushed up against mine.

"Mr. Wolfe give Liara some space." Ms. Talon told him sternly. She gave him a warning look. Brantley I noticed only smiled back but he did back up a little bit. Suddenly the bell went off and I jumped.

"Come on we have same classes." Brantley jumped up from his seat then came around on the other side of me and waited patiently. As we walked out of the class Bentley was waiting on us.

I noticed his body go rigid at the sight of Brantley and I. I noticed his teeth sharpen. Suddenly Brantley's hand was gone from mine and he was up against the locker's. Bentley was holding him there with his hand wrapped around his brother's throat.

"I told you to stay away from her. Did I?" Bentley yelled. The students looked at the brothers then back to me. Two other guys came up to them and pried them apart but Bentley only pushed him down and rammed the other guy of the way.

Brantley came over to me and took a firm hold of my hand and we started running down the hall. We rounded a corner and I knew his brother was after because he was yelling at Brantley to stop and let me go.

"Brantley I swear if you hurt Liara I will kill you!" He yelled. That surprised me so I yanked on Brantley's arm to stop. He didn't budge and we kept running. As we got to the stairs he stopped, but made up start to go up and go in to the girl’s bathroom.

"I'll come for you. Just stay there."

"Don't argue with me right now. Just go." He told me sternly

I nodded and hurried upstairs. Before I could round the corner I seen Bentley come up fast on Brantley and punch him in the face. I dropped my books and went back down the stairs.

"Stop, guys please!?" I pleaded with him. I see my chance to get in between the two brothers I jumped in between Brantley and Bentley. As Bentley's fist was coming down he stopped the swing and backed off immediately.

"I could've hurt you. Why in the hell would you do that?" He yelled at me.

"Are you insane? Why would you get in between two guys fighting?”

"Both of you are stupid. Why are you fighting over me anyway? I just got here and all of sudden the both of you are throwing punches at one another." I yelled back.

His eyes went a bright gold color and before he could anywhere near me Brantley stood in front of Bentley.

"You won't touch her, brother. You know just because you said you want her for yourself doesn't mean she'll want you back."

"I want her for myself to Bentley. Liara will be mine whether you like it or not."

Bentley looked outraged then stalked over to Brantley. His breath was ragged and he was starting to shake. Brantley took a hold of my wrist then wrapped his other arm around my waist. We both turned the other way. Brantley was shaking while holding me.

"Are you okay?" I whispered.

"I'm fine." He told me.

His shaking started to shake me as well. Brantley's breathing was starting to pant but I think he was determined not to face his brother. Soon we heard someone yell and a door at the end of the of hall open and slam shut. The bell rang and we both jumped but he still wouldn't let me go.

"I'm so sorry, Liara. I'm sorry." He kept repeating.

"Can you let me turn around? It's alright Brantley. It's okay, I promise." I whispered.

He let me turn around in his arms. I lifted his head from my shoulder and seen the blood stains on his cheek and above his eyebrow. His blue eyes were hard and the small part around his eyes were now a black color. I didn't understand at all how someone's eyes could do that but I gently rested my hand against his cheek. His breath caught his throat.

"I think you need stitches." I breathed out.

He regained his composure and said "No I'm fine, I'm a fast healer."

As he said that I noticed his cuts were healing slowly. Soon his skin was free of any cuts or bruises. This time my breath caught in my throat.

"Are you alright?" He asked. I couldn't say anything but I did nod. He smiled then moved a piece of my hair out of my face.

He loosened his embrace around my waist. I finally moved a little bit but not too far out of his reach. I felt safe with him unlike his brother. I was sort of frightened of him.

I heard him whisper "I can't believe your actually here, it's like a dream." I shook my head and moved his hands away.

"What did I say? I didn't mean to upset you." Brantley said sweetly.

"It's nothing, honest. Just got a little light headed, that's all." I replied.

"Do you want to skip the rest of today. I know it's your first day but your kind of pale and look like you need something to eat."

I looked in his eyes and they were honest. I smiled and took his hand. "Oh first I need to get my notebook. I dropped everything when I seen Bentley hit you."

He chuckled then suddenly appeared at the top of the stairs and retrieved all my books and binders.

"How-how? I give up. Today has been a long day." I sighed.

"Well let's go." Brantley told me before taking my hand in his again. As we got to the parking lot I caught a glimpse of Bentley before he disappeared again. I squeezed Brantley's hand. He looked down at me and smiled.

"You okay?" He asked.

"Yeah, yeah I'm fine."

He draped his arm across my shoulder and soon enough we were at his dark blue truck. He unlocked his door and helped me inside. I looked around and seen a necklace like mine except his had Brantley inside the triangle. As he hopped inside the truck he looked over at me and smiled once more before cranking the engine. I jumped a little bit as the truck came to life.

"So where would you like to go?" He asked as we pulled out of the parking lot.

"I don't know. I'm new remember?" I giggled.

"Right." He chuckled. I looked over at him and smiled while he was smiling to himself. "I'm taking to you a little diner I like to go too, if that's alright."

"Sure. As long as they have food."

Brantley burst out laughing at my response. I in turn laughed along with him. With both of us laughing it sound like a melody. We were both still chuckling and giggling at we pulled in to the little diner. I noticed the name "Valley High Diner."

On the outside there was black tinted windows with red and white draping hanging shortly down on top of the windows. As we both walked around to the front we walked underneath the tent that had Valley High Diner written in big black cursive letters on the front of the tent. Underneath the tent was a red carpet trailing all the way towards the door.

He held the door open for me as we went inside. The door clicked with a bell ringing notifying someone entered.

An elderly looking lady with a red and white dress on with gray curly hair looked over at behind the counter. She smiled at Brantley and said "Take a seat hun, I'll be with you in a minute."

"Okay, thanks Mary."

She nodded and poured another cup of coffee in to a man's cup while watching us take a back booth.

"That's Mary, she runs this diner and has for over 45 years. Her late husband George died two years ago. It was a tragic car accident."

"Aw that's awful."

I looked back at Mary and she looked deep in thought then as if she could feel my gaze she looked up at me. Mary smiled at me sweetly then grabbed two menu's from under the bar and started walking towards us.

Brantley tapped my hand and whispered "It's not polite to stare, darling."

"Huh? Oh, oops. I think I spaced out." I frowned a little.

"Don't frown, it doesn't suit you." He told me smiling. I felt a blush creep upon my cheeks then. As Mary came over she smiled sweetly at Brantley then looked at me with a confused look.

"Who is this lovely young lady?" Mary asked Brantley.

"This is Liara Huddleston. The new girl in town." Brantley smiled at me while taking my hand in his on top of the table.

"Oh, well welcome to AshMere Valley." She told me nicely then took notice of our hands. Both of her eyebrows went up then a blush came across her cheeks.

"What you would like to drink dearie?" Mary asked me changing the subject.

"Um do you have sweet tea?" I asked shyly.

"Of course would you like an orange or lemon with that?"

"Orange please." She nodded and looked up at Brantley.

"Um same thanks Mary." She nodded again and went off to get our drinks.

"It feels nice here, and I feel safe." I blurted out.

I covered my mouth with my hands and blushed like crazy. I'm pretty sure my face was red as a tomato. Brantley laughed once more then leaned over the table to take both of my hands in his and said

"It's fine. Wait, what do you mean you feel safe? Is someone hurting you?" He said with a harsh tone.

"No, it's not that. Just my mom's new boyfriend is just creepy to me that's all." He nodded and then looked at me with a concerned look. We sat there for a couple minutes not saying anything. We did occasionally catch one another glance.

Mary arrived back with our drinks and I looked at the menu and decided what I want on the spot. Mary laughed at Brantley and said "You and your brother get the same thing every time." Brantley glowered at his brother's name. She smiled at both us before taking off to put our order in.

I jumped when my phone started ringing. Brantley chuckled but nodded for me to take the phone call. I glanced down with my phone that I pulled out of my pocket, it was my mom calling.

"Crap." I said.

"It's my mom."

He raised both eyebrows but then padded my hand. "It'll be alright just tell her your switching classes."

I answered and said "Hi, mom."

"Hey honey are you on lunch?"

"No I'm actually switching classes right now, my lunch isn't until this class is over with."

"Oh okay. I guess I'll go on to the local burger joint then. I was hoping we could have lunch together."

"Maybe tomorrow?" I asked hopefully.

"Sure, I'll take a later lunch."

"Alright honey I'll let you go. I'll see you tonight."

"Okay." I repeated then shut my phone off.

Brantley gave me a thumbs up before chuckling. I shook my head laughing along with him. After we ate our food we still had a couple hours to kill before me going back to school.

"Crap." I said once again thinking of who was taking me home.

"What?" He asked concerned.

"Um, I forgot to ask who's picking me up. Mom doesn't want me to ride the bus."

"I can take you home if you like." He said hopefully.

"Are you sure? I don't want to be a bother." I told him honestly.

"Yeah, I don't mind at all. And your not a bother at all." He told me while smiling at me.

"You like to smile a lot don't you?" I asked. Brantley only answered me with another smile. I laughed.

"Now where too?" I asked.

"I don't know. Where would you like to go?" I shrugged my shoulders then told me to hang on. He sped out of the parking lot and turned twice going down a long windy road.

"Where we going?" I shouted because he rolled down the windows.

"I'll show you when we get there." He shouted back. His eyes had turned a gold color. I'm guessing he was excited.

We pulled over to the side of the road and made sure no one was coming then got out of the truck. Brantley came over to my side and helped me out of the truck.

"Okay follow me." He told me once I was out of the truck. I followed up to a low path leading off the road.

"Wait. We're going hiking?" I asked.

"No, we're walking to where I like to sit and watch the town. If you get tired I'll carry you."

I was still wary of his definition of walking and hiking. But he was right we only walked a little ways and we were on top of a hill over looking the town.

"Oh wow, it's beautiful." I was shocked at how beautiful it was. The sun was peaking over the other mountain making the buildings sort of shiny.

"You should see it at night within the moonlight." He smiled at me.

"Will you show me sometime?" I asked.

"Of course."

I let go of his hand and went over to the edge of the rock we were standing on and sat down. A few minutes later Brantley sat down beside me. That's where we stayed until the sun started to set.

"Oh snap, we gotta go." Brantley abruptly said.

We were laying back on the rock watching the clouds pass by saying what we each see in them making shapes, animals among other things.

"Now I'm not saying your slow but do you mind if I give you a piggy back ride going back down the path?"

I shook my head and crawled on his back. I felt like he was running down the hill but Brantley was only speed walking. As we got to the truck we both got in quickly. I called my mom to get directions. I think she was busy because she gave me the directions with out looking at the time. For that I was very thankful because I was supposed to be home two hours ago.

When we pulled up in the drive way I was suddenly afraid to go inside. I didn't know what Kevin would do. I was always on time with everything, well mostly everything. Brantley noticed my hesitance about going inside.

"Is everything alright?"

"Not really, I don't like being alone with Kevin." I whispered, while I fiddled with my hands.

"I could stay with you until your mom got home if you would like."

"Are you sure? I mean I don't want your parents to get mad."

"They won't care. They probably think I'm out running anyway."

"Oh." Is that the only thing I said. "Come on, I'll stay."

I half smiled then hopped out of the truck and pulled out my keys. As soon as we got inside Kevin got up off the couch. He took notice of Brantley with me. He only scowled at us both.

"Just wait until your mother hears about what time your just now coming home. And with a boy. On your first day of school." He only shook his hand. I knew he had more to say but was holding back with Brantley here with me.

I rolled my eyes then took Brantley with me to my room.
