DARK DOG (BARKING AT THE WORLD)

At the start of the year the universe was calling me to write a new set of poems. I let the ideas that I had sit with me for a while and then I set about writing out what would be the storyline into what the poems would fit. It seemed the work would involve written set pieces and poetry. I was all set to go and then...... THE WORLD SEEMED TO GO CRAZY! It became clear to me that I was not being called to write out MY idea but that I needed to report on what was happening in the world and how it was making me feel.

the BLACK dog is a term used to describe depression and it a dark dog. As I started this work we are in a very dark, depressing time in the world and I had to reflect on that. So this is me, the Dark dog, barking back at the world! This is very much a live piece of work as we turn through this year. I also have my reflections in here, on my own thoughts, feelings and life. This is my heart open and my soul on show for anyone to see. It is me being brave, I hope you enjoy!

43. FROM A PILL TO PLANNING THE DINNER

On a bleak rain filled morning she dropped the kids at school

Back home with the house silent she held up the first pill

So tiny inbetween her fingers it represent what her life had become

once in her mouth, going down like the spiral of life

She paused as the second pill fell into her palm

glancing up at the photos of her husband and children

Did they really need her?

Would it matter if she faded into the background

(was she already there?)

The third pill pushed the panic of the reality of what she was doing

It is when the tears started to fall

This prescription of life seemed filled for the last time

She glanced up at the clock as it chimed

As the pills spilt onto the table she noticed the pattern they made

She snapped back to her senses as she planned the dinner that day

Somehow she was pulled from her somber mood

and picked the kids up from school

Nobody would ever know

how close she had come that day

But she knew she would have to deal with these emotions

It was the only way to survive
