“That’s silly, you’ve just had major surgery and now you’re talking about adopting a child who you don’t even know.’ It was a shock to Elizabeth who knew only too well about adoption.

“If we get a baby then we have all the time in the world to get to know him.’

“You are saying him it could be a girl that they offer you.’

“No, I want a boy and I won’t accept anything else.’

“Well I think it is absolutely ridiculous. Two months from now you will have forgotten this crazy notion of yours. Anyway what about you’re Job?’

“I will hire a nanny if you and dad aren’t prepared to help.’

“Well you know that you can rely on us if you need us said Nelly and Jack.’

“I never said that I wouldn’t help snapped Elizabeth, I just want you to think about it that’s all.’

“I think our Laura has made up her mind already Elizabeth and you know how head strong she can be.’

“Thank you dad, I knew that you would understand.’

“I’m sure that the hospital has contact numbers of local agencies said Albert.’

“Good, on your way out please make some enquiries. Now if you don’t mind I want to sleep I’m tired.’

“But Laura we just got here said her mother.’

“Mother I said I’m tired, I’m meant to be resting.’

“Come along Elizabeth leave her be. Charlie came over and kissed his daughter before leaving.

“I will call in later Laura said Albert.’

“Not if you don’t have any news for me, ring these agencies there must be some child who wants a good home.’

Jack and Nelly said goodbye and that they would call again later in the week.

As they were walking down the corridor to the hospital exit Elizabeth was still protesting about the adoption. In the back of her mind was a reminder of what she had done twenty odd years before.

“Look Elizabeth it is both Albert and Laura’s decision not ours.’

“She is just pining for the child she lost can’t you see.’ This will all backfire you mark my words.’

Charlie had brought the car and they said goodbye as Albert gave his mother and father a lift back.

“I don’t think Elizabeth likes the idea of you and Laura adopting a child son.’

“That woman doesn’t even like me let alone another child. If we’d had a child together she would never have accepted it.’

“She’s certainly a strange one said Jack.’

Albert dropped his parents off then headed home to ring adoption agencies.
