The story focuses on three families. The Kinnear's, The Millsap's, and the Owen's. All different. They live very different lifestyles. Albert Kinnear the Librarian, who's parents came from Swindon but live in Pinetree Gardens, his father Jack is an engineer. He is a keen gardener and Pigeon fancier. Albert meets the daughter of Charlie and Elizabeth Millsap. They live on Kenton Road, in a bought property. He also is a pigeon man who has wangled his way into a chairman's job. he is a welder down the docks. No one is good enough for their daughter and they resent the relationship between Laura and Albert. Then there is William Owen(Willick) a roofing builder who lives in Cedarwood Avenue with two son's and a daughter. Alan is a jack the lad; he will sleep with any woman given the chance. Harry the youngest is a joiner and the brains in the family. Evelyn his daughter is twenty five and her father is pushing her to meet a man and get married so he can have grandchildren.

“It’s nothing like that I assure you Cassie.’ Colleen is Gay but keep it to yourself as nobody knows.’ She is very discreet and keeps her private life private if you know what I mean.’ “I first met her in university when we were both studying, she is really nice you will like her, she lives with a young woman from Thailand called Apinya Khajee.

The waitress brought their sandwich and Cassie cut hers into quarters as the halves were too big.

“How’s your night classes going?’

“Fine David, I never thought I’d be able to slip back into a degree course after such a long lay -off but I am finding it very enjoyable.’

“Good, it won’t be long until you qualify and then the world will be your oyster.’

Have you heard anything from Sandy yet?’

“No, which I find rather odd.’ “He should have received the letter from the solicitor friend of yours by now.’

“Yes Ian Templeton said that he would send him a letter straight away.’

“There may be something waiting for you when you get back, I asked the post office to transfer all your correspondences to my house. I hope that you didn’t mind me taking the liberty.’

“Not at all, David I will have to start paying my way as I cannot live at your house without contributing something.

“Let me worry about that Cassie.’

“Alright but tonight’s meal is on me and I’m paying for our lunch.’

Cassie took out her credit card and handed it to the waitress to pay the bill.’

A few moments later the waitress returned. “I’m sorry madam but this card has been cancelled.’

“There must be some mistake, could you please try it again.’

“We have tried three times madam, it has been cancelled.’

“Thank you said Cassie,’ who went into her purse and then gave the waitress a ten pound note.

“Looks as though Sandy has cancelled my credit card.’

“I will have to go to the bank to get some cash out from our joint account.’

“Okay, I will go with you.’

They walked up Blacket Street onto Northumberland Street then called in at Barclay’s bank.

Cassie stood waiting until her name was called then went to the counter and asked the cashier to cash a cheque for one hundred pounds. The woman got the account up on the screen then turned to Cassie and told her that the account had been closed and that there was no funds available.’

“She knew then for certain that Sandy had closed both accounts down and she was left with only a few pounds in her purse.’

“She walked away from the counter embarrassingly and then told David.’
