There will be more than enough for both your garden and mine. The more ground that you can cover the less weeding you’ve got to do.’

By the middle of March we will set tomatoes, cucumber, bell peppers, and strawberries away.’

Once they were finished they went back into the house where Nelly and Elizabeth sat with long faces. “Sorry mam dad, and I have been getting the garden ready for planting out in March.

“He’s getting really green fingered is Albert.’ Said Jack with a grin.’

“Well let’s hope our Laura doesn’t get neglected. I’ve had a bellyful of pigeons and gardening.’

“Laura actually likes gardening more than me Elizabeth so we can do it together.’

“Gardening has never been an interesting to me. I hate getting dirt under my finger nails. I get mine done every week.’

“Where’s Laura, I thought she’d be back well before now.’

“When she gets with her father she forgets to come home; they are inseparable at times.’

“Yes, but they’ve been away more than two hours now.’

“That’s nothing to our Laura, when she feels the wind in her hair and the road ahead of her she will be away for hours yet.’

“I’ll go make another cup of tea then said Nelly.’

“I’ll help you mam.’

Nelly and her son disappeared into the kitchen leaving Jack and Elizabeth talking.

“What’s up mam you had a face like thunder earlier.’

“Its Laura’s mother son, she doesn’t think that you are good enough for her daughter.’

“I’ve had that impression ever since we met mother but I just ignore her.’

The Volvo 66 handled nicely and Laura was happy to just drive around the coast with her father chatting away until he finally said that they should head back. Reluctantly she did and when they arrived at the house she got out and locked the door.

Oh you’re back said Nelly to Laura, we’d thought you’d got lost.’

“It was nice to just have the freedom to drive anywhere I wanted. We drove to Ashington didn’t we Dad.’ The Wansbeck is lovely this time of year.’

“I had best be getting your mother home now Laura.’

“Thanks for the car dad, I love it.’

“You go easy, and it will last you for years.’

“I will dad, I will look after it just like a new born baby.’

They ate tea making some turkey sandwiches, Albert and his father ate a turkey leg between them.

The rest would not go to waste as they could make some turkey broth and curry with the rest.
