“It should have settled down in a few days; what kind of work do you do Mr Longmuir?’

“I work on the oil rigs as a steel inspector.’

“If there is any climbing involved then it is out of the question for over a week.’ You could end up with a serious haemorrhage.’

“But I’m needed back on the job in a couple of days.’

“No one is indispensable Mr Longmuir.’

“I may lose my job.’

“You may lose your life if that infection spreads.’

Sandy lay back on the bed with his hands behind his head and prepared himself for the worst.’

He’d been told by others on the rigs how painful the procedure was. He laughed at them then because he was alright. Now the shoe was on the other foot and they would be laughing at him.

He had to get himself back to work though he, needed the money to pay the solicitors bill that would surely cost him a lot of money for his divorce. One good thing in his favour was that the house was in his name. She could not take that away from him.

He also had an offshore account that neither she nor the taxman knew anything about. When this was over he would still be very well off he thought.’

“It was almost three months since the sickness that Laura had picked up in Oslo was gone. She had returned to work after a week feeling a lot better than she had and Mr Thorn was pleased to see to see her. She was a very good sales person and she sold a lot of perfume. The two girls she worked with were not as good at selling as she was. It didn’t take long for Laura to get back into the swing of things again. Albert had been brilliant, he’d run around after her all the time she was off, he’d cooked and cleaned as well as taken care of the shopping and the gardening. His mother had also come around to check on her whilst her son was out at work. Albert or even his mother never noticed the slight bloated look in her stomach. Laura had reduced her food intake by half in an effort to keep her weight down. She was coming in exhausted and she didn’t want to go out socialising with Albert. Choosing instead to go to bed at nine o’clock each evening. By the time Christmas came Laura knew she was indeed pregnant. She had tried to hide it but it was so obvious now that there was something growing inside her. Albert and both sets of parents were over the moon when she eventually told Albert the news. They now started knitting jumpers and romper suits. Little booties and hats were also made in both blue and pink, just in case. It kept them busy for months. Albert was rushing around getting all the Christmas gifts for everyone. The Christmas turkey was given by Marks and Spencer’s. It was huge and Laura invited both sets of parents over. Albert helped her on Christmas morning; he peeled all the vegetables for her, chopped them up and placed them into salted water. The thirty six pound bird would take a few hours to cook and Albert couldn’t wait for it to come out of the oven.

They waited for both sets of parents to come over before handing out their presents and opening theirs. There was a big surprise from Laura’s dad when he turned up in a new car then gave the keys to his daughter.’
