“You can help set the table for me whilst I pour out the tea.’

Albert went to help his mother whilst Jack talked to Laura.’

“How’s your father’s pigeons doing Laura?’ He had a first and third at the weekend I believe.’ I came second it was a good time though she’s only a young bird and it was her first time out.’

I don’t know I haven’t seen my father since we got back from Oslo, Albert is going to call in after dinner here so I can see them.’

“Did you have a good time in Oslo then?’

“Apart from the crossing, I’m not a good traveller, and I get sea sick very easily. To be honest I thought I was still on a ship this morning when I got out of bed.

“Jack laughed then said, yes, it takes some getting used to.’

Come on lets go into the kitchen and eat I’m starving the fresh air from the allotment always gives me an appetite.’

Laura sat next to Albert in the small kitchen which was Spartan but tidy. It was nowhere near the size of hers in Wooler Avenue. Laura began eating and was eating her sausage when she felt sick. She excused herself from the table and went to the bathroom.’

“I do hope that’s she’s alright Albert. She might have picked up a bug from the food on board that ship.

“Well I ate the same as her and I’m alright.’

“You’d better go and see if she’s alright Albert.’

Albert got up and went along to the bathroom then knocked on the door. “Are you alright Laura?’

“Yes I’ll be out in a minute.’

“Albert turned then returned to the kitchen,

He told his mother and father that Laura would be out soon.’

When Laura returned Nelly gave her a sedative for her stomach, she asked Albert to take her home so that she could lie down.’

“Sorry mam said Albert as he led Laura to the door then opened the car for her.’

“I’ll give you a ring later mam bye for now.’

“Take care of her now son, I’ll speak with you later.’

“Albert opened the window on Laura’s side of the car before driving away.

They drove up the street then turned right. “At least we’ll be home soon Laura and you can go to bed.’

“If you are no better by tomorrow morning I will ring Doctor Conroy.’

“I’ll be fine Albert.’
