63. 63

I see, never mind, it doesn’t matter. Did you eat lunch then?’

“No, I just had an apple at three o’clock when I grabbed ten minutes.’

“Never mind, my mother will cook us a nice dinner tonight I’m sure.’

“Will you stop saying never mind Albert, it is really annoying.’ It does matter, and I do mind.

“Look don’t come and wait for me at lunch time, I cannot always guarantee that I can get away.’

“What is wrong with you today Laura, has someone upset you?’

“Am I not allowed to have a bad day, can’t I just for once be myself Albert.’

Albert nearly said never mind again but stopped himself. He drove to his parent’s house and parked outside. He let Laura out and Albert’s mother came to the door to greet them.

Come on inside you look worn out Laura. The kettle is boiled and I shall make us all a nice cup of tea.

“Where’s dad?’

He slipped over to the allotment to feed the pigeons he won’t be long.’

“Have you had a good day then Laura, I bet all the girls at work wanted to see your lovely wedding ring.’

Yes, they liked it.’

“I bet you told them all about your honeymoon in Oslo too.’

“Yes I did.’

“Are you alright dear, you look a little peaky today?’

Yes, I’m fine sorry, it has been a busy day and I’m really tired.

“Laura hasn’t had lunch mother.’

“No wonder the poor girl must be starved. I’ve made some pork chops, with sausages, and I shall fry us an egg and some chips.’

“Is there any beans mam?’

“Yes son, I’ll open a tin of beans for you.’

Just then the door was opened and in walked Jack from the garden.’

“Here said Jack to his son, I’ve brought you a cabbage and some carrots and a few spuds.’

“Hi Laura said Jack I bet you’ve been rushed off your feet.’

“I was just saying that love, doesn’t she look a bit peaky today.’

“I’m fine really I am Laura placated.’

“Stop fussing mother said Albert.’

“Alright Albert, I was just saying, Nelly smiled then went into the kitchen.’

“Do you want a hand with anything mam said Albert?’
