“Who would fit the kitchens?’

Young Bob of course, you have an apprentice working in the back now so he can do the cutting out whilst Bob fits the kitchens.’

“How much are you asking for me to buy you out?

“I would need at least six grand, can you afford it?’

“I can see about a loan.’

“Good can you do that soon as because we will be away at the weekend?’

“Yes I will make an appointment to see my bank manager this afternoon.’

“Can you not ring now and see if he will fit you in this morning?’

“Alright I’ll give them a ring now.’

“I have to go, if you have any problems give me a ring on my mobile.’

Harry picked up the mobile that looked like a black house brick and placed it on top of his tool bag then jumped into the van.

All the way to Scotswood he was thinking of ways he could make extra money.

Harry thought if he could fit two extra jobs in each night that would give him at least five grand; he would have to keep it quiet and just use the materials from the business and ask for cash payments  to avoid paying tax. He wouldn’t be able to see Susan until the weekend but at least they would have the money that they so badly needed. He looked through his book and found two people who lived not far from each other. He picked up the phone and rang them.

“Hello Mr Weatheral, yes it’s Harry Owen from Kitchen Craft here, would you mind if I came over about five tonight to do that job for you?’

No Problem Harry replied Ricky Weatheral

“Great, I’ll see you at five then.’

Then Harry rang another number and spoke to another customer but they were not happy about him working at nine o’clock at night as they had children who had to go to school and drilling walls at that time of night would upset neighbours.

Harry thought then came up with the idea if he could start earlier; it meant by 2 o’clock he would be finished and he could start the next job which would take him until 5 o’clock and then another until eight or nine that night. He was going to be tired but it had to be done. He had to get that six grand by the weekend.

He rang Susan and told her of his plans and she was okay about it. Her mother was making curtains for the cottage for her and Susan had been out picking up bits and pieces of good second hand furniture from the auction rooms. Her father used the large van he had to bring them home.

By the weekend Susan and Harry were ready to travel to Saumur. The large van Harry would drive and Susan would drive the small van that had a tent just in case they needed it and the solid oak kitchen that he was going to install. Susan had been to the bath showroom and picked up a toilet
