“Can you give us a moment to change and make ourselves more presentable?’

“You look fine to me Estelle, but if you want to change you go ahead.

“I have to change said Sofia I still have my work clothes on.’

Estelle and her daughter went off to change whilst Paul and Norman waited.’ Once they were ready they headed off down to 51st Street to St Thomas’ Church Hall.

Surprisingly enough, they could hear the music a few streets away and it sounded good. The Church hall was packed with old and young alike and they all were dancing along to the jazz music. The old lady on the door greeted them as Paul asked how much it was to get in. “It cost nuthin’ to get to heaven sunny jus’ a good heart and the love of Jesus.’ You can make a donation if you wish.

Paul gave her $20 dollars then they went inside.

“Would you like a soda asked Sofia?’

“Its okay said Paul I’ll get them.’

Paul walked over to the table where another lady was serving and bought four Dr Pepper’s. The woman who was white and about fifty asked if he was new to the area to which Paul replied that he was just a tourist.

“Well I hope that you enjoy your stay here in Newark.’ You seem as if you’ve been in the wars what happened to your eye?’

“I was in a fight last night.’

“Did someone set about you?’

“No Mam, I’m a boxer and I was on the bill last night.’

“Oh I see, I’m not a fan of pugilism but to each his own. Sofia steered him away and led him onto the dance floor where her arms went around his neck she gazed up into Paul’s blue eyes one which had the beginnings of a purplish bruise on the eyelid. “Do you enjoy boxing Paul asked Sofia as they danced around slowly?’

“I guess so I’ve been doing it since I was about nine years old.’

“Do you make a lot of money from it?’

“Well I did this fight and my next will be for the European title which will bring me enough money to buy my own home and be secure for a while. If I can land a world title fight and win, the money then will be considerably more.’

My team mate just got a few million dollars for beating Hector Fernandez.’

“Wow! A millionaire in one fight.’

“Yes that’s when you’ve made it as a fighter; the big bucks start rolling in.’

“Do you have a girlfriend at home?’

“No, why do you ask?’

“Well you are handsome, and quite charming. I’m surprised some woman hasn’t snapped you up.’
