“That was a huge fish, that’s the biggest fish I’ve ever caught Harry.’

“It was certainly a good size, one to be proud of.’

Now let’s see if you can catch another. We have to lay some ground bait now after you’ve casted out again.

“Do you want me to cast in the same place as last time?’

“If you can, yes.’

Susan took a look out to where she had casted out before and she let the line go. The bomb flew into the air then plopped down about sixty yards out. She didn’t need to be reminded to wind in the slack then placed the weight onto the line and gently pressed the alarm sounded so she knew that the line was now set.

She sat next to Harry and exclaimed that was the most exciting thing that she’d ever done.

Let’s hope you get a bite off one of those big catfish here in the lake then you’ll know what a real fight is. They are about seventy five pounds in weight and very hard to land on eight pound line.’

Have you ever caught one?’

“Two years ago I struggled for over an hour with my mate trying to land the fish of a lifetime. It was that large we couldn’t get it into the net. It broke the line and swam off. It was a monster of a fish and the biggest I’ve ever had on a hook.’

Harry stood up and he went into his bag and took out his large thermos flask he took the two cups off then poured them both a drink and added milk. Susan didn’t take sugar he observed from the meal they had last evening.

“Harry handed it to her after stirring in some milk with a spoon.’

“Are you hungry?’

“No thanks, not for me; I had a banana this morning for breakfast.’

“Well I’ve eaten nothing since I got up so I hope you don’t mind if I eat something.’

“Not at all.’

“Harry took out a pork pie and cut it with a knife and put it on a paper plate. Normally he’d just take a big bite out of the pie but he thought he’d better watch his manners.’ He had just taken his second bite from his pie when the alarm went again and it was Susan’s again. He set his coffee down and the pie on his seat as Susan took the second of her two rods she wound in a little as before then set the hook and once again the carp whizzed off up the lake this time Harry was able to capture every moment as she brought the fish to the net It was a common carp which was about twenty pounds. It was still a good fish for someone who had never done any fresh water fishing before. After showing her how to unhook the fish they weighed it and again she was taken holding it.

“I think you have the makings of a great angler.’

“Do you think so?’

“Yes I do.’
