“Well tonight I cook for you both.’

“What about your customers.’

“They will be back, do not worry.’

Rod stuck a sign up in both English and Portuguese explaining that the restaurant was closed. Then he poured them both a glass of wine from a vine that grew in a nearby vineyard.

“Cheers amigo said David as he swirled the wine around in the glass then sniffed the bouquet. Immediately he knew it was a good wine.’ When they had finished the glass of wine Marianna offered then another which they gratefully accepted. At 4 p.m.  A tall thin looking lad walked into the restaurant. He spotted David immediately and ran to him and hugged him. “Doctor David welcome.’

“You’ve grown so tall Alex; you’re almost as tall as me now. How’s your back. David lifted his shirt to show David.

“The scars have healed nicely.’ By the way I want you to meet my wife. Cassie this is Alexio Cardoza.’

“Pleased to make your acquaintance Mrs Brenton, You are like an angel from heaven.’ Never have I seen such beauty.’

“Please call me Cassie Alexio.’

“Please call me Alex, because that is the name that I will use when I come to England to be a doctor.’

“Do you mind if I have a private chat with Alex dear.’

“No go ahead I will have a chat with Marianna.’

“Alex walk with me to the Marina.’

The young lad who was wearing a pair of chino’s and a tee shirt and some worn out training shoes walked along as David asked what branch of medicine was he interested in.

“Cardiology.’

“So have you been at college long Alex?’

“Just seven months; I am working part time to try and help my father pay for my tuition.’

That is very commendable, now I want you to listen carefully to what I’m going to say. Don’t answer until I am finished okay?’

“Yes, Doctor David.’

“Do you have a passport?’

Alex nodded his head

“Is it up to date?’

Again Alex nodded.’

“Cassie and I are flying back to England tomorrow night and I want you to come with us. You will have to apply for a visa but we will meet that problem later. You can live with us and I will get you a scholarship at medical school. It is a big undertaking I know but the benefits are great.’
