He got his eye on a light blue coloured Hilman Super Minx. The car was a convertible and it was perfect. How could Laura not like it he thought? It had leather upholstery and had a white rim around the tyres. It looked classy.

The car dealer came over and asked if he could help him.’

“I’m interested in this model here; how much is it?’

“That model sir is £854 with that you get free mats and a radio.’

“Look is there any way we can come to some kind of a deal here?’

Come over to my desk and I will see what I can do for you.’

“Albert followed the man who was now confident that he had a sale.’

“My name is Eric Clarke how can I help you.’ Eric took out his flash looking pen and began to take details as Albert gave his name and how much he had to spend.’

“You see I can only let that model go for £800 at the least but listen come with me I might just have what you are looking for and it’s in your price range as well.’

Eric led him to another part of the showroom where there were more cars on show. They were all in immaculate condition. Look at this one I’m sure that you are going to like it and its only £495. It’s a convertible; it’s had only one owner and hasn’t been used that much as you can see by the mileage.

“It’s only one year old Albert; last year’s model.’

“Why did the owner want rid of it?’

“It was a company car, his company; and he wrote it off as a tax dodge.’

“There’s a bonus feature if you haven’t already noticed.’

“No I haven’t what is it?’

“The car registration is AL 1

“It’s like having your own personal number plate, only the mega rich have them you know.’

Albert asked if he could take it for a test drive and Eric agreed he opened the double glassed front windows right out he got in then drove the car outside then slid over to the passenger side and let Albert drive it out of the parking lot. Albert loved the feel of it and the smell of the leather as he drove the car to Tynemouth and back. Eric was right it was perfect and once more he’d be saving a lot of money. Albert pressed Eric as they came up to the garage on the coast road.

“Fill the tank with petrol Mr Clarke and you’ve got yourself a sale.’

“You drive a hard bargain Albert, but for the sake of ten quid you’ve got a deal.’

Albert shook Eric’s hand then drove back to the showroom. When all the paperwork was completed he gave Albert the log book and then took his money; all in crisp twenty pound notes. Eric quickly checked the amount before handing him the spare keys. Albert checked his watch it was now four thirty; by the time he filled the car with petrol he could then go and pick up Laura from work.

He couldn’t wait to see her face when she saw the car. It looked for all tense and purposes like a new vehicle. The smell of the leather upholstery and the feel of it would utterly amaze her.
