“I’m washing my hair on Sunday night; look Albert give me a call when you get your car and we will go out alright.’

“How much will it be to Kenton Road, Albert asked the driver?’

“Seventeen and a tanner mate.’

Albert stood and waited for his change after handing over a pound note; the taxi driver made sure that when he handed Albert his change and it was all in pennies.’

“Sorry mate that’s all the change I have he smirked.’

Albert thrust the money into his pocket then said goodbye to Laura.

“Thank you for a pleasant evening.’

Albert was about to say something else but the taxi driver pulled away.’ “Sorry about that said the taxi driver I have another fare after this.’ Your boyfriend is a bit of a cheapskate isn’t he? He was sweating like an expectant father over the fare.’ “Now if you were my girl I would spend the earth on you.’

“Don’t flatter yourself, what makes me think I would be seen with a sweaty taxi driver.’

“Pardon me; what did you just say?’

“You stink of BO, I was nearly sick when I got in the back of your cab.’

“Hey listen here pet, I don’t have to take you home yer na.’

“You’ve been paid to drive me home do not try and belittle my boyfriend; Albert is worth ten of you.’ He is courteous and respects a woman unlike you who see woman as just some… some sexual object.’

“I get offers from women all the time.’

“I guess some women are just desperate then aren’t they.’

The diver never said another word after that. He knew that he was never going to get anywhere with this girl.’

He stopped outside of her house and she got out by herself. No sooner had her feet touched the pavement when the car sped away. Laura grinned then opened the gate and walked up the path taking the key out of her bag.

“Did you have a good night then Laura asked her father who had stayed up waiting for her.’

“Yes dad we enjoyed the films. Laura went on to tell him all about both movies in detail.’

“I see he paid for a taxi as well. That goes a long way in my book.’

“He’s buying his own car next week dad.’

“That’s good.’ At least I won’t have to worry about you getting home on time.’

Laura leaned in and kissed her father’s cheek. Dad you don’t need to look after me I can take care of myself.’ I’m going up to bed, goodnight.’
