After his second glass of scotch he’d calmed himself down. He placed his laundry into the machine and set it away. Then he walked to the bedroom where he searched his drawers then took out a clean sweatshirt and a pair of tracksuit bottoms. He found a pair of white socks then went into the bathroom undressed and had a shower. He was feeling much better now as he dried himself then got dressed. He walked into the kitchen then over to the fridge where he took out four large chicken breasts that had been marinated in chilli and piri, piri sauce. He made some rice in the microwave and lightly fried some onions, mushrooms, and red and yellow peppers. When the chicken was grilled he sliced it then added it to the vegetables and rice. Sandy ate hungrily until he heard the phone then picked it up. It was Neil Sarin.’

Hi mate they are on to us, some guy called Neville Sedgwick has just served me with a writ. They know every fucking thing, the properties, the shares the fucking lot.’ “They even know about my son.’ How the fuck did they find out?

“Calm down Sandy and read out what the writ says.’

After listening for five minutes Neil said “give me the contact number and I will see if we can strike a deal.’

“Deal” what fucking deal, you said that she wouldn’t be able to get her hands on my money. Now do what I fucking pay you for.’

“Look they are threatening you with jail for non- payment of taxes is that what you want?’ “Sandy you are backed into a corner here.’ If we make a deal it means you walk away with something instead of nothing.’

“I will get that bitch for this.’

“I never heard that Sandy, look give me the number of her brief and lets sort this out. Maybe we can get her to accept a few grand.’ And a quick divorce. Otherwise she will have to wait three years for a legal separation. “My guess is she will take what we offer.’

Sandy reluctantly gave Neil the number.

“Look mate I will sort this don’t worry.’

“I fucking hope so mate or we are in deep shit. I have a lot of money tied up in those shares and they’ve just gone up by ten points today.’

“I’ll be in touch as soon as I have spoken with her council.’

The phone went dead. Sandy placed the receiver back on the hook then picked up his plate and scraped it into the waste bin. He washed up then added some liquid detergent softener to the washing machine that was doing his clothes when the rinse cycle began. He had a tumble drier that he used to get his clothes dry. He turned on the TV set when he was finished to hear the news. The main headline was about the oil tanker “Sea Empress that had gone aground off the British coast causing a thirty mile oil slick.  Sea birds and other marine creatures had been affected by the disaster and a rescue operation had begun. It was estimated that 314.000 tons of crude oil had escaped from the broken vessel. It was the biggest spill since the Torrey Canyon back in 1967. Environmentalists and nature reserve authorities were up in arms calling for an enquiry into the spillage and for the local councils along the coastline to be compensated.  The other news was about the forthcoming match between England and Ireland in the six nations on Saturday. Sandy usually went out to watch the match in his local pub “The Bridge” on the island with two of his mates Eric Forster and Giorgio
