5. Chapter 4- Punishment

Chapter 4

We arrived at the foster home. The ride from the Cullen's house was about fifty minutes. Carlisle stopped the car, got out and came around to open my door. I glanced at him with a sad look, earning a sad smile in return as he put an arm around my shoulders and walked me to the door.

Part of me feared what awaited me on the other side of that door. The door to what's considered my personal hell on earth. I hated life as a foster kid deeply and a part of me wanted to cling and beg Carlisle to take me back home with him, but I couldn't do that. Who was I to intrude on his and his families lives, a nobody that's who. So with great reluctance I swallowed my desire for freedom and waited as he rang the door bell. I stepped away from Carlisle, leaving him behind me and to my dismay the devil herself opened the door.

"Where have you been?" Mrs. Shelton asked not noticing Carlisle behind me. Her emotions were evident on her face, she was angry.

"I got lost. I'm sorry."

"Go to your room. You are to be punished," she said. Carlisle stepped to the door.

"Mrs. Shelton if I may explain. I am Carlisle Cullen. Ariella ran to my house when she was being chased by some guys," he said.

"Well it's nice to meet you Carlisle. Call me Amanda," she said with a flirtatious smile. Just like my vision. I felt bad.

"Um, yes, nice to meet you too. I must go now, my wife is waiting for me," he emphasized wife. I held back a chuckle. It was actually funny now that it was really happening. As he turned away from her he turned to me.

"Until next time Ariella," he said.

"Bye Carlisle," I replied. He walked away and when he was gone Mrs. Shelton grabbed my arm pulling me into the house.

"As punishment you will not eat until I say so and you will be cleaning." I nodded. It didn't matter at the moment because I already ate dinner.

For the next two days I wasn't allowed to eat. With all of the cleaning I'd been doing I felt weak and tired. I wanted to leave this place but I knew that was asking for too much and besides, no one wanted to adopt a fourteen year old teenager.

Eventually I couldn't clean anymore, my lack of energy prevented it, so I was kept in my room at all times. My room was different from everyone else's. I didn't share it with anyone. It was small with one bed and its own bathroom. Some may think that sounded nice, but it wasn't. It was an easy way for them to keep me trapped in here without having to let me out for bathroom trips. The bathroom was also small. It had a little toilet, a very small sink and a small shower. Only when Mrs. Shelton wasn't in one of her bad moods did she even let me eat at the table with everyone.

Lying on my bed I wondered what the Cullen's could be doing at that very moment. Something about them intrigued me to no end. They were different some how. Super beautiful, pale —most of them, cold — again most of them. As they crossed my mind, I was taken into a vision.

It was the present:

All of the Cullen's were in the living room partaking in their different festivities. Emmett, Jasper, and Jacob — I hadn't met him but I was told that was the name of their missing member — were playing video games. Bella and Edward were having a conversation. Alice and Rosalie were reading fashion magazines. Renesmee was on a laptop next to Edward. Carlisle and Esme were talking with Fred.

"What's Ariella up to? I wonder," Alice spoke.

"You're the psychic. Why don't you tell us," Emmett said.

"I can't see her at the moment. Its like she doesn't exist."

"What do you mean?" Esme asked.

"Well when I look for her future its like she doesn't have one."

"Hmm...maybe I should go to the foster home to see if she is okay," Carlisle said.

"I agree," Alice said. They all nodded in approval. Emmett stared at Rosalie in surprise. She raised an eyebrow as if asking what?

"You were nice to her, not that I'm complaining, but it's you Rose," he said. She glared at him and his arms came up in surrender.

"I think that we should make sure she is okay," Rosalie explained herself.

"Who knows. These kids might get treated like the kids from Annie," Emmett joked. They all just looked at him like he was crazy.

"What?" he asked.

"Let's...hope not," Esme said with worry. Carlisle put a comforting hand on hers.

"Maybe," he said. It was as if he was implying something. Then again he did witness Mrs. Shelton's hostility towards me.

"So it's settled. We will leave now," Esme stated.

"We?" Her husband asked.

"Yes. I'm coming with you." She left no room for argument as she stood up.

"Yes, we can leave now," Carlisle said.

So Alice could also see the future. That left me both relieved and a bit bewildered. She said she tried looking for my future. Maybe she could control it at times, maybe she could help me. One thing for sure was that Carlisle and Esme were on their way here. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited. However, I was scared at the same time. If they saw the way I looked right now they would know something was wrong, but then again that could be a good thing.
