Welcome to my life

Have you ever felt broken?
Have you ever cried yourself to sleep? That's me. Welcome to my life.

3. Hurt

The meeting went really well.

My friend, Kimberly was there and we giggled together over state, while Ed gave us a mock stink eye from beside me.

Ed's wavy blond hair flew in all directions as the air from the open window rushed in.

We were both singing along to the radio at the top of our lungs, only for the sound to get carried away by the wind.

Laughing, I hopped out of the car when he pulled into the driveway.

"Bye, Ed. See you tomorrow," I laughed, waving as I walked towards the door

"Bye, Cam! See you at school!" He called back, also waving

I giggled as I closed the door behind me, only for it to abruptly stop.

My parents were glaring at me. Oh no. What did I do wrong?

As my dad stood up, I almost brought my hands up to block my face, but fought the urge.

"Where have you been?" He asked dangerously

"I-I told Mom. The dance meeting," I replied swallowing

"Do not sass me!" He yelled, a vein in his forehead popping

"I was-" than I sighed, "sorry, sir,"

"Get your butt upstairs, and go to bed," he demanded

I nodded and fled to my room. As I passed my brothers room I heard muffled sniffles.

"Max? Are you okay?" I asked, a sense of dread filling me as I opened the door

Not Max. Not my sweet, innocent, little brother too.

Max sat up quickly tears still streaming down his face.

"I'm okay, sissy," he said in his soft voice, his brown hair hanging in his face

He had beautiful brown eyes that could melt any heart. Right now, I could see the sadness trapped there.

"What's wrong, buddy?" I asked, sitting down next to him and pulling him into my arms

"Why do mommy and daddy fight all the time?" He asked softly, looking up at me with tears threading to spill

Not on my watch.

"Because they can't decide if they like unicorns or puppies better," I answered, running a hand through his hair

He giggled a little.

"I liked the lunch you packed today. Why did mommy think you didn't make my lunch? You put it in my bag like normal," Max claimed his warm arms wrapped around my neck

"She just didn't see it. It's okay. Now, do want me to read you a story before you go to bed? You look very sleepy," I teased tickling him a little

He laughed and tried to push away from me, but I held him close.

His laughter must've attracted attention, because the door burst open.

"I told you to go to your room!" My dad roared

"Sorry, sir," I whispered, standing up quickly

"Goodnight, Max," I whispered, kissing the top of his head and leaving the room

"Stupid teenagers," I heard my dad mutter as I passed him

That night I didn't fall asleep until the sky started to turn purple from the rising sun.

When I woke up, there were still tears flowing down my cheeks.
