2. Meeting New friends

It's been a couple weeks since I've gotten my letter of acceptance to Hogwarts and I was now standing in the middle of King's Cross Station.

My parents were walking next to me and my dad was pushing my cart full of things I needed for my trip to Hogwarts. My trunk was full of school robes and all the  equipment I'll be using in classes like books, potion ingredients, and dozens of quills and ink bottles.

"You know when I first came to Hogwarts; it felt like the train was taking forever to get-," my dad started to ramble on stories that I've heard a million times.

I stared at the middle of 9 and 10; it didn't hurt going through, I knew that from the stories my parents told me.

"Moony and worm tail are probably waiting for us in the train," I looked over to see two boys about my age running towards the platform 9 3/4. "Come on Padfoot," a taller boy yelled back towards a friend. He had black hair and hazel eyes which were behind glasses.

"I'm coming," the other replied. He had longish black hair and grey eyes. He ran a bit to catch up to his friend. They both disappeared through the gateway to the train.

"Oh we better get a move on," my dad said checking his watch that he had since he was 17.

"You're right," m mum said pushing me towards the gateway.

I waited to the feel of a collision but all that came was the sudden wave of noise. The sound of voices, trolleys moving, and the start of the train was like a rush of adrenaline. I saw families all saying their goodbyes to their children or grandchildren. I looked at my parents, "thank you for letting me come." I wrapped them both into a hug and squeezed.

I took my luggage and ran off towards the train. I heaved my luggage onto the train. Suddenly I felt a someone hit me in the shoulder, "ouch," we both said at the same time.

I turned to see a red hair girl with a prefect badge on her chest. "I'm sorry," she said quickly.

"Oh no," I laughed a bit. "It's my fault, I should of been watching."

"Hi I'm Lily Evans, prefect of Gryffindor," she held out her hand. "Which house are you in?"

"Oh I don't have a house," I said quietly, grabbing her hand. "I'm Rose Hathaway."

"Why don't you come sit with me then," she smiled at me and led down the isle with her luggage.

Kids were talking and laughing as we walked down the isle. Objects were flying overhead making a slight hissing noise.

We finally arrived at a compartment which had four boys in it. Two of them were the ones I saw disappearing into the gateway earlier.

Lily opened the compartment door and the boys all looked up. "Evans," the boy with glasses smiled at her. "Finally here to declare your love for me?"

"In your dreams Potter," Lily said rolling her eyes. With a wave of her wand her items flew to the top of the luggage rack. I followed her suit and mine also flew to the top.

"So whose your friend Evans," the boy called Potter asked.

"Rose Hathaway," Lily said gesturing to me. "This one is James Potter," she pointed at the boy with glasses then pointed to the other boy; the one with grey eyes. "That is Sirius Black, Remus Lupin," she pointed at a boy with light brown hair then finally at a boy who kind of looked like a rat. "And that's Peter Pettigrew."

"Hathaway," the boy called Remus asked.

"Yep," I nodded. He gestured for me to sit between him and Sirius. Lily sat on the other side, in between the other boys.

"Your mother is the Astronomy Professor," he asked.

"Yeah she is."

"Oh wow, you're moms a teacher at Hogwarts. That's cool," Peter said with enthusiasm.

"She taught me everything I know, well and my dad helped," I replied with a shrug.

"You said you weren't in a house," Lily asked.

"Yeah I've been sick for a long time but this year I was able to come. Dumbledore said he would look after me just so my mum wouldn't worry,"

"So you've never been to Hogwarts," Sirius finally spoke. "Any school?"

I was taken back for a moment; he was actually talking since the first time I've been in the compartment. "Ah," I tried to regain my composure. "No, but my dad is pretty skilled in magic so I've learned a bunch."

"I would hate to have to stay home all the time," Sirius replied with a solid expression. He looked away from me but I could see the struggle behind his eyes.

"I don't think I could go on without you guys," Remus laughed a bit.

"Same Mate," James smiled.

"So what house do you think you'll be in," Peter asked. "We're all in Gryffindor so it might be weird to hang out when you're in another house."

"Well my mum was in Ravenclaw but my dad was in Gryffindor," I shrugged. "So I'm okay with either."

"Don't be such a prat, Peter," James laughed. "We can still hang out with other houses. We could always hang out with Snivellus."

"Oh don't even mention him," Lily said getting angry. She folded her arms over her chest then suddenly she stood, "let's go look look through the train, we're prefects you know!"

"Okay," Remus stood up along with her.

"Have fun," James sung as the two left.

"She didn't seem friendly with that boy you mentioned," I asked lightly. I tried to scoot a little bit away from Sirius. He didn't seem to like me very much but as I moved away he watched me through his hair.

"He called her some bad names last year," Peter answered slowly.

A couple of hours went by; the boys were very friendly. They were asking about me and I was asking about their stay at Hogwarts over the years. Sirius became more open; he started joking about how James was in love with Lily.

Sirius smiled and it actually reached his eyes; I stared at him for a second but turned away as I noticed he turned towards me.

They told me about why Lily got so mad at the mention of the boy whose was Severus Snape. The boys didn't seem to like him very much.

Finally the food trolley came by; the boys went crazy getting different things. I got a couple of things myself. I was eating a cauldron cake just as "want one," Sirius offered a licorice wand.

"Thank you," I smiled and grabbed the licorice wand.

After a while of conversations and Lily bickering with James. Remus finally piped in, "we should probably get our robes on."

"Well then boys gets out," Lily demanded.

"Why do you guys get to change first," James questioned.

"Ladies first Prongs," Remus said standing up. The boys filed out and Lily pulled the curtains over the windows of the door.

"I do hope you are in Gryffindor," Lily said as she pulled down her trunk and rifled through to find her robes. "I would like to hang out with you during classes too."

"I would too," I laughed. We changed quickly then changed sides with the boys who were changed within seconds.

We all sat down again but this time Sirius was in front of me and I sat beside Remus and the window.

"Do you not like Sirius," Remus asked as Lily and James got into another argument.

"No," I tried not to blush. Sirius was looking at me through the side of his eyes.

"But you moved away from him," Remus said quietly. "Peter told me earlier."

"No," I said quickly. "I only did it because I thought he didn't want to be so close to me. He didn't seem to like me much."

"Oh that's just how Sirius acts sometimes; he'll come around," Remus winked at me then turned towards the rest of the group.

Finally we arrived at Hogsmead station; everyone got up and left their luggage and started walking towards the doors.

I was walking behind Remus with Sirius on my heels. Remus stepped off the train first but when I went to step down I missed the step and began to fall. I closed my eyes waiting to hit the ground but suddenly there was a hand around my waist pulling me back onto the step.

I looked over and Sirius's face was inches from me. "Are you okay," Sirius asked as he stepped down onto the steps.

"Yeah I'm sorry," I felt the blood rush to my cheeks.

"Just be careful next time Rose," he smiled at me.

"See he likes you," Remus whispered to me then began walking again. I let myself smile and followed them.

This was going to be a fun year.
