7. Chapter 7

I wake up to sound of my name being called in a calming tone. I already know who’s voice it is- Devon’s. I feel for my surroundings. I’m on a couch, so I must be in the big living area I saw earlier when we were all scouting out the house. I sat up quickly and my head began to ache just as it had when I first awoke this morning. You’d think I would’ve learned my lesson already about how NOT to sit up quickly when you wake up.

“Hey, hey, hey. Not so fast there. You just passed out, so let’s take it slow.” Devon’s voice calms me.

“I’m fine.” I state, though I don’t know if I really am.

“Well, I wouldn’t say you’re fine and I don’t think you feel fine either.” How does Devon seem to know what I’m thinking?

“No, really, I’m okay.”

“You sure?”

I nod, “How did I get in the living room anyway?”

“I carried you in here. The kitchen floor didn’t seem properly suited for the Lady of Terra.” Devon jokes.

I slap his arm playfully, “Ugh! You think that stupid title will actually stick?”

“I sure hope so.” Devon’s laugh names me grin.

“Where are the other’s?” I ask.

“In the lounge.”

“We have a lounge?”

“Yep. And a pool, and a hot tub, and a sauna, and a rec room, and a bunch of other rooms I can’t remember. Here, they texted me pictures if you wanna look at everything they found.” Devon hands me his phone.

“Why didn’t you go looking with them?” I question.

“I didn’t know when you would wake up. And we both know how confusing it is to wake up in a strange place with no one you know.”

“Thank you.”

I think about how I wish I were awake when Devon was carrying me. I wish I could’ve felt his arms wrapping around me, holding me like I was his. In reality, I was out cold and probably looked hideous as I most likely drooled out of the side of my mouth. I’m ever so attractive. Yes, that was sarcasm. The fact that he actually stayed with me warms my heart though. He could’ve been exploring the mansion, but instead he chose to stay right by my side so I wouldn’t be alone.

“Anytime. Wanna go meet up with the other’s in the lounge? If you’re feeling up to it.” Devon asks.

“Sure.” I stand up and smile, ready to act like everything is fine and normal.

Devon’s phone goes off.

“Oh, looks like they’re headed to the pool now. It honestly feels like we’re kids again. Wanna grab our swimsuits and head over there?”

“Um, I didn’t pack a swimsuit. As a matter of fact, I don’t even know where the bag that I packed is.” I say, realized just now that I had no clue where my belongings are.

“Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you! Mari couldn’t find her bag so she got really pissed off and used the parchment paper to write to the council about it. They ‘sparkled in’ our bags to our rooms. Madam Terram must really dislike Mari though because her bag was sealed shut with tree roots. Since you were asleep, she had to try to burn the roots off. She ended up burning her bag though, which made her more angry. It was quite hilarious.” Devon explains in detail. That’s so Terra of him; to explain every detail.

I laugh, “I bet it was funny. Having my bag still doesn’t change the fact that I didn’t pack a swimsuit.”

“They probably have them in our wardrobe somewhere. Shall we go look?”

“Alright, but I swear if there are only scandalous bikinis in there, I will lose my mind.”

Back where I live, which is predominantly an Ignis community, all of the girls wear red bikini tops that show way too much cleavage, and bikini bottoms that are more of a thong than a swimsuit. I never really went to the pool ever, just so I could avoid that. I mean, I would love to wear a bikini, just not one that makes me look nearly naked.

“Let me guess, you grew up in an Ignis community?” Devon teases.

Once again, he’s read my mind.

We head up to the fifth floor and go into our rooms. I head back to my wardrobe and open up the giant doors. I see the dresses I had looked at earlier, but nothing else. Then I see there are a few drawers on the bottom. Underwear, bras, socks, aha! Swimsuit! I pull out a two piece bikini that doesn’t look to scandalous. I go into my bathroom and put in on. I look in the mirror.

The bikini top is made of beautiful flowers and it’s strapless, but it somehow holds itself up. You can see a little cleavage, but not too much. The bottoms are made of vines with some flowers poking out here and there. Luckily, nothing is too revealing about this swimsuit, and it’s actually quite comfortable.

I fix my hair the way I like it. I pull out all of the pins in it and let my hair down and loose. With my natural hair, which is slightly wavy, it does just past my shoulder blades. I’ve always loved my hair. It has natural blonde and honey brown highlights look good with my steel blue eyes. I don’t know what it is about me lately but I’ve been feeling… beautiful.

I walk out into the hallway and see Devon has been waiting for me. He is wearing swim trunks made of leaves. They look funny at first, but I quickly get used to them. Devon hear me walk out and turns around. I can now clearly see his muscular arms, which match his abs. I’ve always been a sucker for seeing guys with abs. Devon, quite frankly, was hot! I thought for a moment he should actually be in Ignis.

He looks at me and his eyes go wide. He looks at me up and down, which momentarily makes me uncomfortable, then he clears his throat and looks back up at my face.

“Wow… uh… wow!” He says, unable to think of any other words.

“Ready?” I ask.

“Yeah it’s just… you’re beautiful. Sorry, it’s just… wow.”

“You’d be even hotter if you had a bigger vocabulary than just ‘wow.’” I tease.

“Ha ha. Very funny.”

“Well, I try.”

“You did technically call me hot though.” He smirks.

“What?” I think back to everything I said.

“You said I’d be even hotter if I had a bigger vocabulary. That implies that you think I’m a little hot.”

I immediately regret saying that.

“Well, you called me beautiful, don’t forget that.”

“And I meant it.”

“And I meant what I said too.”

We both gave each other a half smile. Devon started to lean in closer, and I followed. It was like we were moving together like two pieces of a puzzle, trying to find where they fit. Our faces were only inches away. Then Devon’s phone went off and it startled both of us. I was disappointed because I knew what was going to happen.

“Reese texted me. Apparently this is an impatient group of people. They’re wondering where we are.” Devon explains.

“Okay. Tell them we’re on our way.”

Great timing Reese, I thought.

Devon and I started heading down the stairs toward the pool. Some day, I thought to myself. Some day.

AN: Hey guys, it's Bri! I hope you're enjoying this book so far! Comment down below who your favorite character is so far! My favorite I think is Mari, because of her attitude ;) I will respond to all of the comments, and I might do a special chapter from the most popular character's point of view! Thank you!
