The Annihilation

It was all peaceful until The Annihilation began. Amira wasn't exactly the person wanting to be the Special, but again, neither did Gray or Felix, or any of the other 400 teenagers brought to Daya. But none of them had a choice. Cover by NamesFromGraves

"You sure you're ok?" Dirk said as he stopped me in the door frame as I was leaving his house.

"Yeah." I nodded. "I'm fine."

"You didn't drink one too many beers did you?" He chuckled and ran his hand through his hair, which wasn't very long.

"Dirk you know I don't drink." I rolled my eyes.

"C'mon man, stay a little bit longer." Dirk tried to push me into the crowds of people behind us. I looked back. I truthfully didn't love parties. But when I actually made the varsity basketball team as a sophomore it was a HUGE deal. Automatically I was invited to dozens of parties, and popular people such as Dirk began wanting to befriend me.

"Dude," I looked at him straight in the eye. "my Mom said that if I miss curfew one more time I'm grounded, and you know that Sharon is having that huge party next week that we don't want to miss."

"Yeah, yeah." Dirk moved out of the way. "I'm not gonna stop you."

"Thanks man." I walked out and jogged down the street and then stopped. I shivered as I googled the current temperature. 90 degrees. I shook my head. Why was I so cold? I walked home and when I got there, I went straight to bed.

But, around 2 AM, I woke up with a start. Someone was standing over me. I grabbed my flashlight quickly and turned on the light. It was a girl who looked around 20. She was oddly beautiful, with long wavy black hair wearing a black leather bodysuit.

"Well hello-" I began, but then she took a needle, stabbed my arm with it, and everything went dark.
