The messages on the table becomes small notes and you are bounding with this unknown penpal on levels you could never imagine. The person brights up your day and you help each other through troubles, but who might this secret pen pal be? (story is posted on tumblr as well under the name Calmimagines)

3. Chapter 3

You have now been writing with your secret pen pal for over two weeks and you have shared many thoughts and ideas about life and music. You have been going and looked at almost all the seniors to get a clue about who your pen pal was, because either of you had reviled who you were. But that only made it a bit more exciting. You couldn’t wait to get to school after the weekend, which also made you cringe because you had never really loved school that much.

You drove your small car into the schools parking lot with Split blasting from the CD player. You were still singing along when you got out of your car because you thought you were alone. But the second you slammed the door shot and locked it, you turned around to see Michael standing on the other side of the car beside you. With a quick glare into the window of the car there was a huge pile of Fast-food wrapping, school books and CD’s. It was obviously Michael’s car.

“Nice voice, tree-kisser.” He said and smirked at you. You rolled your eyes at him and sighed.

“Fuck off and leave me alone.” You said harshly and slung your backpack over your shoulder and walked towards the school.

“I meant it!” He called after you but your ignored him and joined Kate at the entrance. She smiled and linked her arm with yours. It was nice to have someone there for you. No matter what people said about you, she would always be there to keep a smile on your face. Even though she was annoying at times and asked you to go on blind dates.

“He is so annoying. I was actually having a great morning, and that fucker ruined it for me.” You complained to Kate.

“Don’t let him get to you. It’s going to be a good day! I promised to go see Anthony at lunch by the way. Will you be joining?” You two stopped in front of the math class. You looked at your table in there but it was still empty.  You were very early so not many students were there yet, but you would be late to history if you stood there for much longer. You had to find out who your pen pal was, in another way.

“And miss out on the full view of James at lunch?” You said a bit lower, so only she could hear you. She rolled her eyes and went into her class. You looked at the empty seat one more time and wondered if there maybe already was a note waiting for you under there.

You used most of your lunch with music in your ears and notebook in your hand. With the view of James and some of his friends you got inspired to write a short lyric of how much you liked his hair. The little flip it made when he laughed and he leaned back a little. You finished up with a few embarrassing hearts on the top of the page and you looked satisfied down on the page.

“Why are you sitting here alone?” Someone suddenly said from behind you. You jumped a little and per reflex grabbed the notebook and pulled it into your chest, so the person behind you couldn’t see what you wrote. You looked over your shoulder to see a very confident Michael stand there with his hands in the pockets of his open hoodie. He was smirking down at you.

“It doesn’t concern you.” You snapped at him and shoved your notebook into your open backpack that lay on the table.

“You like James, don’t you?” Michael asked and you felt your cheeks become red, so you made sure to look the other way.

“That doesn’t concern you either.” You said harshly and stood up from the bench and grabbed your backpack.

“You have been staring at him the whole time. You don’t dare to talk to him.” He said and laughed a little. Was he mocking you?

“Of course I dare to talk to him. He is a normal human like us. Or well, me. I’m not sure you are that human.” You huffed at him and started to walk away.

“Then talk to him.” Michael said. You turned around to look at him. He had a daring look in his eyes and he smiled as soon as your eyes hit him. You stood there a little and didn’t know what to do. If you walked away he would win. But you didn’t want to talk to James. Not this way anyway. But Michael couldn’t win against you. You walked up to Michael and poked him hard in the chest with a finger.

“I will. Just watch me, dickhead.” You snapped and marched up to James. Luckily for you his friends left and he was along with his book. But still you had just marched up to him like a soldier on steroids. Surprised by your action he looked up and waited for you to explain or at least say something, but now that you stood in front of him, you didn’t know what to do. You had no idea what to say to him.

“Ermh… hey?” He said and half smiled at you with raised eyebrow. He looked so good.

“So… Hello! I ermh…” You stuttered. You could not look away from him. His eyes were so enchanted and they made you feel like pudding. There was no way you could speak a whole sentence without fucking up, when he looked at you that way. But even though you had been standing there for the longest time, he kept smiling at you. Could he not?

“Heeey James, right? Your name is James? I have something to show you!” Michael suddenly interrupted and slung his arm around James shoulder and forced him to stand up and dragged him away from you. It took you a few moments to actually move again and register what just happened. Did Michael just ruin the first time you ever talked to James or did you do that yourself?

Your day was not going great so far and it got worse as soon as you entered your math class. Next to Laura was Jenna sitting in your seat. Jenna was not nice but mostly left you alone, unless someone she wanted to impress was nearby. She was supposed to sit in the front of the class, in her own seat. Not YOUR seat. You could not get your note if you could not get to your seat.
You walked up to your table and stood there awkwardly.

“Jenna, that’s my seat.” Jenna looked up at you and looked at you, almost like she pitied you.

“We have a substitute teacher today, so I thought I wanted to sit with Laura today. She doesn’t know that I’m not y/n, so she doesn’t know that I’m not in my seat.” She explained and turned her attention to Laura again. You stood there for a moment more and debated whether you could drag her away from your seat in her hair. It was probably not the best idea so you walked up to the front of the class and sat down on her seat. You had to wait until after class and everyone left, to get the note.

The class was boring when you didn’t have any note to read, write or just think about. And now that you knew that there actually was a note waiting for you, made the class seem longer than usual. You really tried to listen to what the substitute was saying, when there was a knock on the door. Everyone looked at the door as Michael stuck his head in.

“Hello, what do you want?” The substitute asked him. Michael was not looking at her but looked over the class and spotted Jenna that was sat in your seat, he winked at her. You didn’t know they were a thing, but come to think of it, they would make a lovely but horrible couple. Jenna straightened her back and waved back at him, which only made the substitute angry.

“What exactly are you doing in here? Do you have permission to leave your class?”

“Of course I have Mrs. I was going to deliver you a letter.” Michael said and laid a letter on her desk while eying Jenna in the back of the class. He left quickly again. Your substitute opened the letter and became visible red in the head of anger.

“What a joker! There is nothing in the letter? Can anyone here tell me his name? I have to report him to the principle!” She almost screamed out the classroom. Everyone went silent. You thought about tell her Michael’s name, just make sure that he got a detention, but it was not something that would make you any more popular, so you kept your mouth shut.

When the class was over you pretended to keep writing notes from the blackboard until everyone was out except the substitute.  She just never left so in the end you walked down to your seat and was about to reach under there to get the note, when the substitute suddenly looked up at you.

“Are you friends with the girl that was sat there?” She asked you and you stepped away from the table.

“No not really. I have never really talked to her.” You answer honest.

“Okay then. You can go now.” The substitute said smiling to you and you had to leave the class without the note.

Worst day ever…
