4. the truth, part 2

When I walked down the hall, the girl from my S.S. class and a few others near her stared at me. I rolled my eyes and walked on. I have no time for that girl.
I saw just what I needed to see: Matt. He was talking to a girl, supposedly being his girlfriend, that was twirling her hair round and round on her finger. I felt no need for jealousy. I'd never date a crook.
"Hey! Jenny, this is Cassandra. Cassandra, Jenny."
Cassandra looked me up and down. "Who is she?"
I smiled as politely as my mood could take it right now. "He is my tour guide for the year. I'm new here."
She smiled evilly. "So, your New Girl?"
I frowned. I hate being called the new girl, no matter where I go.
"Her names Jenny Sweethouse, Cassandra," He said annoyed. "Cassandra just moved here last year. Maybe sometime when I'm not here, Cassandra, you can show her what you learned about this school these couple of years." Matt smiled and chuckled.
I smiled a fake smile back. "Um, Cassandra, can I borrow Matt for a second?" I said, still smiling.
She wasn't. "Whatever you have to say to him, you can say it to me, too." she gave me a smirk, hoping that would make me go away.
I sighed. "Okay, fine. Matt, do you know how you said you didn't have anything to do with Ally's disappearance?" Matt nodded his head. "Well, how come on the computer, there was a website saying there was a debate between  who did it: You, or Joseph?" I crossed my arms and smiled. There was no way to get out of that one.
Cassandra looked all the way up at him and folded her arms. "Yeah, Matt, how?" she said.
He crossed his arms, too. "Well, first, I don't see why they put me into it anyway. It could've been anybody that kidnapped Ally. And, second, the war has been over. We pretty much have forgotten about that crap."
"Yeah, so get off his back!"
"Hold on," I said, holding up my hands. "if this is all coming from your mouth, then how come yesterday morning you told me that you never knew what I was talking about? About Ally, and stuff?"
"Look, I wanted you to get off my back. It's not much a big of a deal," Matt said, worrying my voice down.
"What makes a difference now?"
"I was in a bad mood. My aunt died." Cassandra gasped. "The one that loves me?"
 Matt nodded.
Cassandra leaned down on her shoulder and cried. Then she turned to me and said, "You're sick." They walked off together. But before they turned the corner, Matt looked at me behind his shoulder and winked. I gasped. Did he just... play me? He did! I turned around and headed to class angrily. Why did he play me if he had nothing to hide?
