4. Chapter 4 - (Jackie's P.O.V)

The house I am currently going through was once known as the McKrackens’ house, a family that was said to get along with everyone in their neighbourhood. They were that family that was adored by everyone. On October 17, 1813 an event occurred, causing the loss of two wonderful people. Jeremy McKracken and Joanna McKracken—husband and wife— died on the mentioned date. It was stated that Jeremy McKracken had killed his wife, and then did the same to himself shortly after. Nobody knew why he would do such a thing, being the 'caring and sweet' man that he was. Throughout the many passing years after the event there have been numerous people that have attempted to solve the puzzle, but seemed to fail. And then, of course, there were the rumours that spread over time, so many that everyone has their own story to tell that no one has heard before. It made perfect sense that the people we were looking for came here, though, since this place has been isolated from everyone that passes by. It wouldn't come to mind, and if it did the idea would simply be tossed away. They were well hidden, and no one would find them except for Marty, Wesley and I.

We were able to come across this place all thanks to one of the criminal's men, actually. A few days or so into the case we had noticed a man watching our daily movements; when we're in and out, when we leave and return from someplace else, and where we go when we head out. His name is Johnston, which we learned not long after we started the case. We were able to get so close to them the one time that we caught some snippets of conversation, including others' names; Axel, Jamie, Carlton and Fredrick. Soon we noticed a pattern as to when Johnston left. We assumed that was when he went to inform someone about our movements, and we took the chance one night to see if we were correct. Ending up at this house, we thought something was wrong, that a place like this was not somewhere ideal for these men, so we returned home, confused. Then just today, we followed Johnston again, and here we are.

So far, all we know is that this is certainly the place that Johnston had gone. We went as far as we could with him, and then stayed back as he entered the house. I suppose he doesn't have any idea that we followed him. Either that or he's just playing us and we're the real fools. Now, why were we here? Who were these men named Johnston, Axel, Jamie, Carlton, and Fredrick? Last week we were called upon to take up a case, and we immediately accepted when we were informed by the police chief himself, Chief Blanton that shipments of expensive products were being stolen. He needed our help and we gladly took this up. Within a few days we had located the hideout, which leaves us to where we are now.

"Jackie! Jackie, please tell me you're there," Marty whispered in concerned tones. His voice echoed off the walls in the awfully quiet home, allowing me to hear him no matter his volume.

"I'm here!" I reassured him in whispers. "Can you come over and get me though? I can't really see anything, since someone has my flashlight.''

There was a pause, and I could hear the faint hushed chatting between Marty and Wesley, and then, "Yeah, yeah. I'll try to remember my flashlight next time. Sit still, I'm coming over."
