31. Chapter 31 - (Jackie's P.O.V)

I looked at Chief Blanton's expression as he talked to us, going over the events of the day. All the weariness was wiped clear off of his face. The creases on his forehead disappeared while the bright shining in his eyes returned. He would cast a quick look at his son once and a while, glad to have him back. Frank looked well now that he was out of the house and away from those crooks. I mean, yes, he was still in pretty bad condition considering all the bandages that he had acquired, but now he was smiling widely and talking animatedly with his father.

I couldn't help but smile at the sight of their happiness, and then mine. I had been reunited with Marty and Wesley, and had been remaining as close to Marty as possible. Not only did I like the feeling of being safe with him, but I just wanted to be by him. Thankfully he had the same idea as he currently held my left hand with his right, drawing patterns with his thumb on my knuckles. I rested my head on his shoulder, sighing in content. Everything was just fine.

The bandaging and cleaning of my wounds had already been taken care of, leaving me with a lightly pounding headache. The nurse had given me some medication to ease the pain of my sore bruises which helped as long as I didn't bump into anything or anyone.

The chief had known who Nathan was when he acquired some information about past counterfeit operations, and Nathan’s name had been upon the list of participants. He had also been one of the few released not long ago, and the only one who was known to be in Privington.

"...and so you can be sure that Nathan and the others will be put away for a long time," Chief Blanton assured us, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"There's another thing," I joined in. I didn't know if the other police officers had searched the building yet, but I had to notify the chief about Nathan's operation. "They kept this work room specifically to make counterfeit bills. It's down the hall, and it's got everything. Computers and such alike."

"That I did know about. When I told the boys I was on duty it was based on a lead, I figured that the people running the job had Frank, seeing as it would be a way to keep me at bay if they needed to. I also had one of my men follow you here. I knew that if you got into trouble that I'd like to come and help yous out, so of course I had to assign one of my men on you. He had to contact me if he saw you go somewhere then disappear. That he did and here we are."

"What about that man that Jackie saw? The one that, you know..." Wesley inquired.

"Oh! Yes, we found a body of a young man further in the woods. The poor guy. He may have been part of Nathan's crew, maybe not, but after some questioning I'm sure we'll learn that it was Nathan that committed the crime. He's a violent person and I wouldn't expect any less from him. I'm sorry that you four had the misfortune to be in the presence of him. Especially you Jackie, and Frank."

"It all turned out well in the end though, didn't it?" I commented, smiling.

"Fortunately it did." Chief Blanton wrapped an arm around his son's broad shoulders. "Now I'm sure three," he gestured to Marty, Wesley, and I, "could use some rest. I think I can manage to get you out of any more questionings, so no need to worry about that." He sighed. "Thank you once again for your tremendous efforts. And of course for getting my son back to me. Enjoy your day." With that Chief Blanton spun on his heel with Frank, walking towards other officers.

I squeaked in fright and amusement as my feet suddenly left the ground. I looked up to see a grinning Marty, while Wesley probably looked as confused as I did.

"And what do you think you're doing?" I demanded, wrapping my arms around his neck while swinging my legs that dangled over his arm.

"I thought I'd carry you home," he answered.

"I'm able to walk, you know." I admired the gleam in his beautiful eyes, and his soft but heart melting smile. He was just so adorable that it made me want to squeal like a little girl on her birthday.

"Your point is?" Marty pressed. I laughed softly and rested my head in the crook of his neck, closing my eyes momentarily.

They opened again when I heard Wesley speaking.

"I totally saw this coming," he said, then added, "and am glad it happened. I mean look at the two of you."

Marty and I looked at each other and immediately sparks flew. I'm glad it happened too. So very glad. In a few minutes we had reached our doorstep. I was finally home again. As we entered the house I noticed that everything that had been knocked over or broken was either placed back in its original position or thrown out due to being severely damaged. Marty gently placed me down on the couch and plopped down beside me.

"I'm going to grab something to eat. You guys want anything?" Wesley offered.

"I'm alright, thanks," Marty said.

"And you Jackie?"

"I could go for some eggs and a cup of tea. I'll help."

I made to get up but Marty brought me back down.

"No, no. You stay there and do nothing. Marty and I will take care of your needs." Wesley walked away to the kitchen before I could protest, leaving me with Marty.

"How're you feeling?" Marty questioned.

"I'm feeling good. I've got this slight pounding in my head but other than that I'm fine."

"Oh? Well I think I know just how to fix that problem."

"You do? And what exactly do you plan on doing in order to make it better?" I leaned in as he did, pausing when he spoke again.

"It's easier said than done..."

And then the gap between us closed…

(Marty's P.O.V)

Fireworks erupted...

(Jackie's P.O.V)

Butterflies flew, turning my stomach over...

(Marty's P.O.V)

And I couldn't stop a smile from spreading onto my face. I was finally kissing Jackie. Finally. It was the best feeling in the world, and I never ever wanted it to end. Trying to explain how it felt was like trying to explain why you deeply loved something or someone. It was impossible. It was just so...so magical and exciting. And with Jackie it was perfect. I jumped as I heard someone speak, and felt Jackie's lips leave mine.

"I leave for two seconds and you're already all over each other...get a room," Wesley mumbled. I laughed as he headed back into the kitchen, chuckling as well. I turned back to Jackie.

"Now, where were we..."

THE END!
