23. Chapter 23 - (Jackie's P.O.V)

I passed the door frame and was outside, standing on the porch. I jumped down the stairs, and heard Nathan's footsteps close behind me. I turned right and noticed Marty and Wesley fighting off a guard. Two others lay still on the ground, most likely unconscious. Marty looked up and noticed me.

His eyes widened at my disheveled sight and also at the tall man following dangerously close. I heard Nathan yelp as he tripped, stumbled then fell with an 'oomph!'. I kept on running all the while, and Marty began to make his way towards me. When we finally reached each other I jumped and he caught me in his arms, holding me close.

"Guys, I hate to break it up but if we're gonna get out of here we gotta get going now," Wesley said.

Marty placed me down and grabbed my hand, squeezing it lightly. He pulled me along as we ran to the front of the house. We searched for a place to hide, somewhere that is invisible to the crooks. And then we heard a shot fired, and then another. Two men, dirt covered and clothes torn, showed up from inside the house. They held their guns up high, aimed at us. We backed away, our backs facing the only way out of here. Then to our left another man appeared, also holding a weapon. We kept moving back while the three men advanced on us. And then we stopped as we heard a low growl and then a cackle of pure evil.

"You're trapped now," Nathan said from behind us. "You won't be going anywhere for a long time.'' And I believed him.

(Wesley's P.O.V)

Marty held Jackie close as we were lead back into the house, a protective arm wrapped around her shoulders. I stood to her right as an extra shield from harm. When I first had a look at Jackie I hadn't realized anything—the bruises and the cuts and the blood. She was too wrapped up in Marty's arms for me to see anything properly. But now that I could see her—really see her—I couldn't help but stare in disbelief. I now truly understood why she had hid behind Marty and I when that tall monster of a man began to close in on us. He was scary looking but he had hurt her, he had terrified her. She was covered in bruises, and I don't mean a few small dots on her arm. I mean a big amount of her arm, or one side of her face completely different than the other. Her left cheek was almost fully consumed by blacks and blues, and her lip was busted. Her arms had huge prints on them—her captor probably had a tight grip on her—and she had small open wounds.

As thankful as I was that they were small and not too much of a problem, I still had a worry of if they got infected. Jackie also had a lump forming on her head, and her brown silky hair was tainted a copperish colour due to some blood loss on her head. I felt my fists clench in anger. This guy would certainly pay for what he did to my friend. And I think I could speak for Marty when I say this as well. No one messes with us. It's not only one. You mess with one of us, you have to deal with all of us.

We were surrounded by armed men as were directed to go one way or another. There were four of them, all forming a diamond shape around us—one man in the back, front, and on the left and right sides. The one that scared Jackie the most stood at the front, probably leading the group to some secluded room. By now I knew the most of the mens' names due to orders being called or questions asked. The man on the right to us Roger; the one on the left known as Newman; behind us was Fritz; and ahead was Nathan.

Nathan seemed to be the top man, the one who controlled this operation. I wondered what exactly it was that he did. Obviously it was something serious due to the hidden location and also since he kidnapped Frank to keep the chief and his men at bay. And Frank! Was he alright? Had they harmed him as bad they did Jackie? Where was he? Did they...dispose of him? All these questions and I needed the answers.

I was so caught up in my thoughts that I nearly bumped into Nathan's back as he paused in front of a door. He produced a key from his sweater pocket, and placed it inside the keyhole in the door. As he turned the key there came a sharp but slow click, click, clicking sound. The door swung open to reveal a semi-dark empty space. A window on the farthest wall was boarded up, only letting in just enough light so you could see around the room.

"You, boy," Nathan said to me, flicking his head in the direction of the door. "You go in first."

I did as told and walked forward. I turned once I had passed the doorframe and waited for Marty and Jackie to enter after me.

"Now you, boy," Nathan told Marty. Marty glanced down at Jackie who began to tremble slightly in his arms. He gave her a light squeeze but didn't have any intention on letting her go. He began to walk inside with Jackie, not speaking a word. And then in a flash Jackie was out of his arms, screaming and squirming in Nathan's grip.

"I said you, boy, and only meant you."

"Marty! Wesley!" Jackie shrieked.

Marty lunged forward and threw a punch at Nathan. His fist hit rock solid, breaking Nathan's nose. Blood streamed from his nostril. He tossed Jackie over to Roger as Marty tried to reach for her. I stepped up to help only to be shoved harshly to the ground by Fritz. He kept his eyes and gun trained on me, making sure that I wouldn't try anything.

Marty took another courageous step forward and raised his fist in the air, preparing to throw another punch at Nathan. The other men raised their weapons at Marty but lowered them at a single hand gesture from Nathan. Nathan would take care of him himself. Nathan threw a punch before Marty had even sent his fist flying, hitting his temple.

Marty stumbled and then fell to the ground, his hands gripping his head.

"No!" Jackie yelled as she witnessed the short fight go down.

"I'll make sure to treat your girlfriend as well as you did me," Nathan said, sneering with delight. His eyes had turned black—or had they been black all this time?—but his voice remained calm and steady.

Marty and I hastily scrambled to our feet, trying to beat Nathan to the door. And then BAM! the door shut closed. By the time we reached for the door knob we had heard the final click as the door was locked again.
