Resisting Change

"You think I'm going to change so easy for you? You can hope all you want, but it won't happen."

"Everyone changes for me eventually. Some just take longer than others."

At Rosewood High there are several stereotypical teenagers. There are the girls who are beautiful and well known. Boys who are handsome and definitely players. Then you have the shy girls and the shy boys that no one but the teachers knew.

Meet 17 year old Rose Bunk. She's a good girl. Always does her work and aces her classes. She doesn't get in fights. She doesn't argue with her fellow classmates or her teachers. She's just invisible and wants to stay that way.

Meet 18 year old Shane Kraston. He's anything but good. He rarely does his work and fails most classes. He gets in fights. He argues with his fellow classmates and his teachers. He's very well known and wants to stay that way.

They wanted nothing to do with each other before this. In fact, Shane didn't even know that Rose existed. Rose and Shane's worlds collide when they find out that their parents know each other. Their worlds collide even more when they're told that they are to be married as soon as high school finishes.

Maybe Shane will finally have someone to calm his bad boy nature and Rose might finally have someone to teach her how to have some fun. But then again both of them could be even more broken than before.

Rose's POV

"Wake up Rosalind," a voice said. His voice said. The voice that I'm going to have to hear for the rest of my life.

"What. Do you want?" I snapped groggily.

We've been in the car for three hours and I've been asleep for two.

"We're here," he put his hand on my knee and shook me slightly.

We've been a lot more civil to each other since yesterday. I figured since we had to we might as well get along.

I stretched and groaned then just sat there. I didn't actually fall asleep until midnight and I had to get up at six this morning. I only had six hours of sleep and Lindsey always likes me to have at least nine the night before competition. This was going to be torture.

"Come on Rosalind, you've got to get up," I could hear him smirk. He knows I despise that name.

"Stop calling me that," I said calmly as I sat up and reached in the back for my bag.

"Why do you hate it so much? I think it's a beautiful name."

"Why I hate it isn't your concern. I'll tell when I'm ready. Which will be never," I rolled my eyes and got out of the car, "Okay you have to go through those doors to watch the competition. My parents will be here soon and you can sit with them."

"Where are you going?" He asked.

"I have to get ready," I said as I walked away.

I felt him grab my hand and pull me back. He pulled me straight into his chest and he hugged me. I melted into his arms. This was the first hug he's given me but I don't want it to stop.

"You'll do great. I know you will," he whispered in my ear and kisses right behind it.

I shivered at his touch and he chuckled while he pulled away from me. I watched him walk off and all I could do was stand there. I was shocked not only because of what he did but how I felt about it.

"You did so good Rose! I'm so proud of you," Lindsey whisper yelled to me as I walked off stage.

I felt really good about my solo. I did everything I was supposed to and I made sure I made all of the right facial expressions.

"Thanks! I feel good about it," I whispered back.

I walked through the doors to my dressing room to touch up my makeup for awards. My phone buzzed on the counter so I picked it up to find a text from Shane. How did he even get his number into my phone? He probably did it when I was asleep in the car.

I don't know if you're allowed to use your phone right now but I just wanted to say that you did REALLY good and I had no idea you could dance like that😉 -Shane

I rolled my eyes and put my phone down. I can't believe he would text me something like that.

"It's time for awards," a stage hand told everyone in this dressing room.

Everyone rushed out of the room but I had to wait for my team. Even though I wasn't included in the team dance this week I still had to go out with them.

"Alright guys, even if we don't win we'll still walk out of here with confidence okay?" Lindsey said.

"Okay," everyone replied.

We all walked out and onto the stage. I sat down behind everyone in my team since I didn't dance with them.

When they got to the soloists my head shot up and I listened closely. They called out second to eighth place. Next was first and I still hadn't been called.

"And in first place... number 771 with Wrecking Ball... Rose Bunk!" The announcer said unto the microphone.

Everyone in the audience cheered loud as I jumped up from the floor and walked over to the announcer.

"Congratulations Miss Bunk. What studio are you from?" He asked and put the microphone to my mouth.

"Lindsey McGuire Dance Company," I smiled.

"Alright, you can go back to your team now," he held his arm out in the direction of the other girls.

"No Channing Tatum is way better than Josh Hutcherson!" I yelled at Shane.

We were half an hour away from my house and we've been talking about movies for hours. I found out that his favorite movie is The Hunger Games and he hates Channing Tatum. I told him that my favorite movie is 21 Jump Street and I hate Josh Hutcherson.

"No way. Josh is the best actor out there," he replied.

"No he's not! Channing is!" I exclaimed.

"Okay how about we have a mutual agreement so we don't argue?" He suggested.

"Fine," I crossed my arms but uncrossed them just as quickly to turn up the volume on the radio, "I LOVE THIS SONG!"

Smile by Daniel Skye had come on. I turned it up as loud as I could and sang through the whole song. I didn't even realize Shane had turned it down. By the end of the song his eyes were wide.

"Since when can you sing like that?"

"Since always," I laughed.

"Sing a slower song so I can hear what you really sound like," he told me.

"Okay the next slow song that comes on I'll sing," I promised.

A few songs later a song that wasn't exactly slow but it showed my voice really well came on. Replay by Zendaya.

I sang my heart out in the song and I felt really good about it. I might post a video on my dad's website of me singing a cover.

"You're really fucking good Rosalind," he said.

I glared at him. Not because of the name thing. I was over that because I'll never get him to stop. It was because of the cuss word. I hate them. They remind of the... incident.

"Don't cuss around me," I snapped at him.

Wow the mood was just so good and I had to go and ruin it. Oh well, he has to know that it bothers me.

"Why does it bother you so much?" He asked with his eyebrows scrunched together in confusion.

"I can't tell you. Not yet. I just don't trust you enough yet," I said with teary eyes.

"You're going to have to trust me at some point. I'm going to be your husband soon," he reminded me.

"You don't think I know that? If you weren't going to be I wouldn't be so nice to you. It's not like you've ever noticed me before even when I liked you. A lot actually. So you not being in my life now won't bother me. It would just go back to the way it was before," oh crap I just told him I liked him.

"So you like me?" He asked. Of course that would be the only thing he caught from that.

"Is that the only thing you heard?" I rolled my eyes.

"I heard the rest too. You want me to respond to all of that? Because I will. You know what? I don't even care if you want me to or not... I did notice you before. It was in the 9th grade when we were paired together for that stupid science project that I started to like you. But I thought that someone like you would never like someone like me so I got over it faster. And nothing would go back to the way it was before because today I realized that the little crush I had never went away. I just learned to bury it deep inside of me. You not being in my life anymore would bother me. And I'm sure it would bother you too," he has pulled the car over to the side of the road and he looked me in the eyes the whole time he was talking.

All I could do was look at him. He was right. It would really bother me. I know it's only been a day but I feel like we have this weird connection. I know what you're thinking though. If it's only been a day then there can't be a connection but you are so wrong.

"And you've got nothing to say?"

"I don't know what to say," I threw my hands in the air.

"What are you thinking?" He asked.

"That it would bother me if we just stopped talking. I'm shocked because you actually like me. I didn't think you I would ever like me back," I mumbled but he seemed to hear every word.

"What's not to like about you? You're gorgeous and smart and very fit. But I still think that we need to take it slow. We said we would come off as friends first and that's what we're going to do. It's not that I don't like you. I just told you that I do. But we can't rush into this. We've got our whole lives together," he placed his hand in my thigh.

"You're right. Friends and that's it for now," I said and pulled his hand off of me.

"Good. We're going to get to go through the whole experience. We meet, we become friends, we flirt, then we date, and then we get married," he smiled like it was simple and started driving back home.

All the way back we talked about our favorite things. Once we got to my house it was 10:30 pm. We both walked in since our parents are making him stay with me for tonight.

Up in my room I turned the tv on for Shane, "I'm going to take a shower real quick. Just stay here and watch tv or something."

I went and got in the shower and did my thing. When I was done I realized that I had forgotten clothes. Damnit Shane was out there too. It's ok. I'll just wrap a towel around me and walk out there like I normally would.

I wrapped myself tight in a fluffy towel and opened the door. I could feel his eyes on me as I walked to my big closet to get dressed. The closet didn't have a door on it so I went to the back corner where he wouldn't be able to see me.

I tried to get dressed as fast as I could but I guess I was too slow. He got up to go to the bathroom (he obviously wasn't, he just wanted to get a good look at me), which you could see from where I was standing. He could see me. He turned his head slightly in my direction and smirked.

I had on a bra and a matching pair of underwear so it wasn't really a big deal since it was just like a bikini but he would make it a big deal. I quickly slipped on the first shirt I found on the ground and it went down to the middle of my thighs.

When I looked back up at Shane he was leaning on the door frame watching me.

"Take a picture it'll last longer," I rolled my eyes at him.

"I did actually. Would you like to see?" He chuckled.

"No," I gasped in disbelief.

"Oh yeah," he pulled out his phone and showed me.

"Delete it!" I lunged for his phone but he held it out of my reach.

"It's not like I'm going to show anyone," he laughed.

"So!? You still have it!" I yelled.

"Suck it up, buttercup," he laughed and walked away.

"Jerk," I spat.

I can't believe he thinks he has a right to have pictures of me. What if someone sees them? What if he sends it to people and it spreads around school?

"If I'm going to be your husband I deserve to have a couple pictures of you," he laid on my bed like it was his and patted the spot next to him to get me to lay with him.

"That's not how it works. You don't get to have pictures of me. I don't want you to," I snapped.

"I'm not going to show anyone or send them anywhere. They're just for me. I told you I'm possessive so why would you think I want other guys to drool over you when your mine?" He asked and sat up in my bed.

I put my hands on my hips and rolled my eyes, "I'm no ones."

"You. Are. Mine," he got up form the bed and took a step every time he said a new word. He was now standing right in front of me.

"I. Am. No. Ones," I got a little closer ever time I said a different word.

"Mine," he grabbed my hips.

"No," I said with an attitude.

"Mine," he growled and bent down closer to my face.

He bit my earlobe and kissed my jawline.

"No," I put my hands on his chest and pushed him back.

He just grabbed my wrists and pulled me back to him holding my hands where they were.

"C'mon baby girl. You know you want this," he whispered roughly into my ear.

I shivered. I did want this. But we can't rush. That's not how relationships work. Then again normally you don't get an arranged marriage with someone. But no. We can't.

"We can't," I said trying to push him away again.

"I don't want to have sex with you. I just want to see how your lips feel on mine," he let go of one of my hands and gently put his on my cheek.

And I wanted to know too. But I can't. I just couldn't. I've got to go with the friend thing first. We can't go back to school and suddenly be all into each other. People would start to wonder and we can't have people wondering.

I shook my head, "No. We can't. I'm sorry Shane."

"Why?" He asked, still holding on to me.

"Because it's all happening too fast. We have to spend our whole lives together. Why can't we just take things slow now?"

"Alright you win this time. But next time it's my turn to win."

I couldn't wait for next time.
