Resisting Change

"You think I'm going to change so easy for you? You can hope all you want, but it won't happen."

"Everyone changes for me eventually. Some just take longer than others."

At Rosewood High there are several stereotypical teenagers. There are the girls who are beautiful and well known. Boys who are handsome and definitely players. Then you have the shy girls and the shy boys that no one but the teachers knew.

Meet 17 year old Rose Bunk. She's a good girl. Always does her work and aces her classes. She doesn't get in fights. She doesn't argue with her fellow classmates or her teachers. She's just invisible and wants to stay that way.

Meet 18 year old Shane Kraston. He's anything but good. He rarely does his work and fails most classes. He gets in fights. He argues with his fellow classmates and his teachers. He's very well known and wants to stay that way.

They wanted nothing to do with each other before this. In fact, Shane didn't even know that Rose existed. Rose and Shane's worlds collide when they find out that their parents know each other. Their worlds collide even more when they're told that they are to be married as soon as high school finishes.

Maybe Shane will finally have someone to calm his bad boy nature and Rose might finally have someone to teach her how to have some fun. But then again both of them could be even more broken than before.

Rose's POV

I woke up the next morning, which was a Friday, to my alarm clock beeping meaning it was 5 a.m. I quickly turned it off so it wouldn't wake up Lilly. She doesn't get up until after I take a shower because it would be way too early for her.

I hop in my shower (I have my own bathroom in my room) and do what I need to do. I grab my towel and wrap it around me, going to my closet to find an outfit.

I settle with white shorts with net tights, black converse with studs and a black v-neck shirt. I put on my ring that I always wear and curl my hair. I do my makeup natural with just brown eye shadow and some mascara. I grab my chap stick and head out and down to the kitchen.

"RoRo!" Lilly exclaimed, running towards me.

"Lills!" I yelled and caught her in my arms, spinning her around.

"I missed you so so so much," she kissed my cheek.

"I missed you so so so much," I kissed her forehead and set her down on the ground.

"Mommy says people are coming over tonight," she said excitedly.

"Did she say who?" I asked. This could have to do with who she was talking to last night.

"Nope," she shook her head.

"Ok, well go and finish eating your breakfast and I'll take you to school since I've got a little extra time," I followed her to the kitchen.

"Yay!" She yelled and jumped around a bit.

I smiled and shook my head at her. Grabbing a banana I ran up the stairs and to my mom and dad's room.

"Hey mom, you up?" I knocked on her door.

She opened it and looked at me surprised. I don't usually come to her room in the mornings but I needed to ask her about our guests tonight.

"Yeah, what's up hun?" She looked at me with confused eyes.

"Lilly said something about people coming over tonight. I just wanted to know who," I said carefully.

"Oh just some old friends," she smiled.

"What time? I need to finish my dance today so I need to know how fast I've gotta work," I asked.

"Around 6:30," she checked her phone, "I need to leave for work Rose."

"Okay. I'll be home by 6 so I can get shower and be ready," I moved to the side so she could get out of her room.

"That's fine. But you need to dress really nice tonight. These people are important," she kissed my cheek and made her way down the stairs.

"I will," I said.

"Rose can you come in here for a minute?" I heard my dad's voice come from his room.

"Yeah, what's up?" I plopped down on the bed.

He was standing in front of me very seriously, "These people coming tonight are very important. I need you to be on your best behavior for me tonight okay?"

"Who are they?" I asked curiously. They were making such a big deal about this.

"Some really good friends. They are bringing their son and daughter too so you'll have someone to talk to," he assured me.

"Are they my age?" I questioned.

"Their daughter is 15 and their son is 18," he answered.

"Okay. Well I need to get me and Lilly to school so I'll see you tonight," I stood up on my toes and kissed his cheek.

"Have a good day at school, baby girl," he called out as I hurried out of his room and into mine.

"Have a good day Dad!" I yelled back.

I grabbed my school bag and my dance bag then ran down the stairs, "Lills are you ready?" I put my jacket on and grabbed hers.

"Yeah!" She came to the front door and slipped her jacket on.

"Lets go," I held her hand and walked with her to my car.

Once we were in the car her favorite song, Rockabye by Clean Bandit, came on, "Sing it to me RoRo!"

I sang to her all the way to her school. As she got out of the car I said, "Have a good day Lilly."

"You too sis," she slammed the door shut and walked into her school.

I got to school and parked in the back of the parking lot like I usually do.

"Hey Rose!" I heard some one yell. Not just anyone though. That was my only friend. Tyler Wafe.

You would think that he wouldn't be friends with me because he was pretty popular and was into sports and stuff but ever since 5th grade we've been attached at the hip. Not only was he popular, but he was a total player. He's been with almost every girl in this school. And before you ask, he hasn't been with me. We're just friends and it will always be that way.

"Hey Ty!" I jumped on his back like I do every day.

Just because me and him are best friends doesn't mean I'm popular, though. Like I said before, I'm invisible. And the few bully's I have only bully me because I'm smart or because of how close Tyler and I are.

"I may not be Fred Flintstone but I can definitely make your bed rock," he said.

That was something we did every day. We told each other pick up lines and see who has the best one. We don't win anything or lose anything but it's just really funny.

"Can I borrow a kiss? I promise I'll give it back," I returned.

"Ooooo good one," he set me down as we walked through the doors of the place I call hell.

"I win today," I smirked.

"I'll win tomorrow for sure," he smiled down at me as we walked side by side down the hall.

Several girls winked at him and blew kisses. It was disgusting really.

"Do you ever worry about STDs?" I asked.

"You already know that I get checked once a month," he chuckled.

"You're so gross. Why would you want to be with so many girls? Don't you want to find the one?" I questioned him.

"I'll find her one day. And you'll find your Prince Charming," he threw his arm over my shoulders.

I shook my head and put in my combination to my locker. Tyler leaned on the locker beside mine like he does every morning.

"Hey Tyler what's up?" Someone called out.

"Same old thing bro," Ty answered.

I felt someone on the other side of me. Someone warm. And he smelled SO GOOD.

"Can you tell coach I won't be at basketball practice tonight?" The guy asked.

I knew the voice, but I couldn't place who it was. I wasn't going to look either, though. I never looked to see who Tyler was talking to around me. All of his other friends were jerks and I didn't want to deal with them.

"Yeah sure. Why won't you be there?" Tyler asked.

"I have to go to a stupid dinner with some people my parents know. They said they have to tell me something important there but I don't know what. It's probably something stupid that I'm not gonna do though," the person explained.

"That sucks ass," Tyler says.

I look up at him and glare. He knows how much I hate it when he curses for no reason.

He looks at me and realizes what he did, "Oh, sorry Ro."

"What? Does little miss perfect not like cuss words?" The unknown person says.

I turn around to glare at the person but my ego goes down by a lot and my eyes widen when I realize who it is.

Shane Kraston.

The school's bad boy.

Oh great.

Should I mention that I've had the biggest crush on him since freshman year? I think I like the idea of changing someone from good to bad. Not that it would ever happen with him, but I still really like the idea.

"Cat got your tongue?" He teases and I look down at my feet.

"Come on, man, leave her alone," Tyler sticks up for me.

"I was just having some fun," he says innocently, "Right Rosalind?"

I look up at him and give him a death stare. Everyone knows I hate my name and NO ONE gets away with calling me by my full name. Not even the only person I like. Although I loved the way my name rolled off his tongue.

"Listen here you butt crack. Everyone knows I don't go by Rosalind so don't call me that. Got it?" I snap at him, getting all up in his face.

"Butt crack? I'm sorry, I didn't know you were in the first grade," he taunts but doesn't move away from me.

"I said leave her alone, Shane," Tyler steps in front of me making us split apart.

"Alright, alright," he throws his hands up in surrender.

"Now get lost," Tyler says.

Shane chuckles and walks away like nothing happened. I really wish Tyler would have just let it play out. It was the closest I've ever been to Shane and I really liked it.

No. I can't think like that. He'll never like me and I'll just have to get over this stupid crush.

"You ok, Rose?" Tyler puts his hands on my shoulders.

"I'm fine," I grab the rest of my books out of my locker and walk away.

I actually wasn't fine. That was the first time he'd said my real name and the problem was... I really liked it. And I usually hate it when people call me by my full name. It brings back too many memories. Memories I don't want to remember.

Once the school day is over I drive over to the studio. On my way there my favorite song, Face to Face by Zach Clayton, comes on. I sing through the whole thing and smile to myself when I pull into the Parkin lot of the studio.

I grab my dance bag and run into the studio locker rooms to get changed. When I'm done I walk out into my favorite room to dance in and turn on my music.

I run through the dance at least 20 times before I decide it's good enough. I scroll through my playlist and pick a song to make a new dance to. I decide on Let Me Love You by Mario. I wanted to make it into a duet but I needed a partner to do it with.

I would ask Tyler but the last time he danced with me we just screwed around the whole time so I can't do that.

"Hey Rose I've got something to ask you," Lindsey said walking through the door of the room I was in.

"Go ahead," I said, not looking up form my notebook where I was writing down ideas for the dance.

"After competition tomorrow I want you to take a few weeks off from competing and-"

"WHAT! NO!" I yelled snapping my head up to look at her.

"Just hear me out," she said calmly.

"I love competing though Lindsey," I whined and stood up form where I was sitting on the ground.

"I know you do but I just feel like you've been working a bit too hard. And I want you to choreograph a dance. A duet actually. For you and a boy," she said.

Well that's weird. I was literally just thinking about needing a partner and here she is telling me that she'll get me one.

"Oh," I said.

"What do you think?" She asked me with a hopeful expression on her face.

"I'd love to. That's what I'm working on now, actually. I've been wanting to do a duet but I don't know anyone who would want to dance with me," I showed her my notebook.

"I have someone who's looking for a partner so I've got you there," she told me.

"Where is he?" I asked.

"He'll be here on Sunday to start helping you make it up. I told him to wait until then because you have competition tomorrow," she said.

"Oh ok. I can't wait," I jumped around and smiled wide.

"Me either. I'm so excited for you because you haven't done a duet in so long," she smiled wide, too.

"Ok well I need to go home and get ready for a dinner with my parents and some of their friends.

"Alright hun. Did you get the dance finished?" She asked.

"Yep. It's all ready for tomorrow," I said while I gathered up my phone and notebook.

"Good. Make sure and be here by 7 a.m.," she reminded me.

"I will," I ran off to the changing rooms and grabbed my clothes from today, not even bothering to change.

Now I just have to get through this stupid dinner.

So the chapter is a bit longer. Do you guys like it? The story will speed up a bit over time but for now I've got to explain everything that's happening and help you get to know the characters so it'll be a little slow and boring at first. I hope you like it!!
