“Can we go dad, I want to go.’

When both sets of parents had left, young Tom was still going on about moving to Australia.’

“Your mother and I will have a talk about it son, I mean it’s a big decision to make to just up sticks and move you know.’ I will have to see if I can get work out there for starters.’

“Well you can do that tomorrow can’t you dad?’

“Yes I probably will.’ It’s your mother and Irene we have to convince.’

“I will talk to our Irene dad you work on my mam.’

When Matty had finished washing up he walked into the living room.’

He sat in his chair then looked across at his wife who was reading the news of the world that her father had brought over for her to read.

“What do you think then love?’

Jenifer looked up from her newspaper and shrugged her shoulders.

“It would be better over there than here pet; no rent as dad said. A massive house and land too.’ Christ we could live like King and Queen out there.’

I just don’t know Matty; it all sounds just too good to be true.’

My dad wouldn’t send us half way across the world for nothing.’

“What about my mam and dad?’

“You have your John to look after them and you can phone them every week. If anything serious was to happen we could come home for a while.’

John lives in bloody Yorkshire.’ How’s he going to look after mam and dad?’

“His house is big enough to look after them both Jenifer. I mean its time that he took some responsibility; he only ever comes over at Christmas these days.’

“Mam would like it in the country you know.’

There you go then; give john a ring and tell him what we are thinking of doing.’

“Looks like you have already decided haven’t you.’

“I’m thinking of the future of this family Jenifer; I mean come on, Tom wants to go; it could be the making of him.’ “I think Irene would go if her friend Carol would come with her.’

“There’s lots of if’s and buts Matty.’

“We could miss out on a golden opportunity here Jenifer, a new start for all of us. “ It could be just what we need.’

“We don’t know anything about Australia’. They have different customs and culture to us Matty.’

“Dad says there are other Brits over there on the same street as us. It can’t be that bad or they would have come home.’

“That’s true.’

“It can’t be worse than this can it; I mean look at us Jen, we were stealing food just two days ago. We are up to our necks in bills.’ “To me it makes great sense to just move away from here altogether.’

Alright; if you really want to go I will go with you.’

“You will; great!

“You have to convince our Irene to go though; Iam not going without her.’

There was a knock at the door and Matty went to answer it.

Matty opened the door to Carol Asiamah.’

Ah, Carol come in, you’re just the person we would like to talk to.’

“Why what have I done?’

“You haven’t done anything love; we have a proposition for you.’
