Irene popped her dressing gown on then came out of her room then stood next to the china cabinet and the red patterned carpet.’

“What’s going on mam?’

“Your granda Davis wants’ us all to go to Australia to live.’

“I’m not going to Australia; I don’t know anyone there.’

“You could make new friends Irene said her grandfather.’

“What about Carol my friend?’

“You could ask her to come with you said Tom.’ How many bedrooms does the house have Granda?’

The house is massive, it has five bedrooms, and it has over fifty acres of land to go with it. “The town is only five miles away where you can do all of your shopping.’

The city of Canberra is not far away either, it has beaches and attractions to suit your kind of life style.’

“There are two other families living out there so you would have plenty company.’

“If you all decide to go I will get Michael Flannery who is looking after the place to get provisions in for you and you can pay him when he picks you up from the airport.’

“I don’t know dad; it’s a big decision to make.’ “What would I do for work?’

There’s a Formica Factory near Canberra have a word with your boss and I’m sure he’ll put in a good word for you.’

“It sounds very lucrative dad I must admit.’

“Put it this way, you have a ready made house to live in; no rent to pay either. There’s a boat and a car I believe.’ Look,’ think it over and let me know what decision you come to.’

The property has been empty now for six months; I have to let the solicitors over there know as soon as possible.’

“What will happen to the house if we don’t go?’

“I guess they will pull it down.’

“Can they do that?’ I mean the land belong to you doesn’t it?’

Law in Australia says they can son after a certain period of time.’

“If you would all like to come through to the kitchen we will have our dinner.’

Jenifer had set the plates and cutlery out on a red checked table cloth she gave everyone a large Yorkshire pudding then asked Matty to carve the meat he was able to slice three large pieces of meat each from the joint and then the vegetables were passed around. Jenifer gave the gravy boat to her father then it went around the table.

This looks wonderful said Ethel as she cut into her meat. It’s not everyday you get a nice piece of beef is it.’

“It’s usually a leg of mince for us normally mam.’

“How come you got beef this week?’

“Presto’s had an offer on that we couldn’t refuse could we Matty.’

“Yes love, said Matty nearly choking on a piece of Yorkshire pudding.

“Irene let out a huge laugh.’

“Did I miss the joke said Phyllis.’

“No mam,’ it’s just my sense of humour our Irene finds funny. It’s it Irene?’

“Yes mam.’

“How much would it cost to fly out to Australia then asked Brian?’

“They might still be doing the ten pound pom deals.’ I will find out from Thomas Cooks they will tell me.’

“Does anyone want anymore roast potatoes?’

“I‘ll have some mam said Tom.’
