him that Randy had died of a drugs overdose after getting hooked on heroine. It was ironic because that is what had killed his idol Jimi Hendrix. Randy was just twenty seven years old. Matty went to the cemetery where his brother and Jackie were buried and lay flowers and gave thanks that their lives had been completely changed.  Changed by a vineyard and a little place called Shieldsland.

Two years after Elsie Higginbottom had gone with Rose to Bamburgh to stay for two weeks her father passed away in his sleep. In one way she was sad that her father had died but on the other felt mighty relieved. Now she could start living the life she wanted. She and Rose planned to go to Benidorm later that year. She took on a part time job working for the Citizens Advice Bureau in Frank Street and loved it.

Her new found freedom had made her a new woman. She went out a bought herself a whole new wardrobe, after all she didn’t want to be seen on holiday wearing old tat.

Rose came around regularly, and they sat drinking wine in the comfort of her garden.

Now she had time on her hands she cultivated it with some lovely flowers and shrubs.

There was a bird table in the centre of the garden. Where she fed all the birds and there were nesting boxes for the finches and blue tits on the apple tree.

Lucy rolled about in the garden with Patch and got up to mischief as usual.

“Are we going to the bingo tonight then asked Rose?’

“It’s Wednesday isn’t it?’

“Yes it is, but what difference does it make; we can go as we please now.’

Aye you’re right we can can’t we.’
