Late Nights

It's late night and all Papyrus needs is a little help on his essay.
Can the mistake of a single number in his friend's phone number change everything for him?

5. Real

There's a long pause while our phones connect, as I'm in Seattle, Washington and Mettaton is down in LA.

And for that short moment I wonder what's going to happen when we connect. Is it really him?

And then they connect and his face is in view.

"Hello," he purrs. His voice sounds as perfect as it does when he sings and when he's on stage.

But this time he's talking to me. He looks gorgeous, too. Velvet eyeliner winged perfectly, red, kissable lips, his hair doesn't show any sign that he was sleeping.

"H-Hi." I can't help but stutter. I'm talking to Mettaton!

"Ooh," he says, leaning his head into his hand, "You're cute."

I hear the person next to me, a girl named Shyren, snicker. Suddenly I'm aware of how red my face is.

Mettaton's still smiling. He must be used to this. I mean, not this but fans getting flustered in front of him. He's just so attractive and he knows it.

"Thanks."

He laughs. "Do you want me to talk to your friends? To prove I'm real?"

I look at Shyren and then to Nick, the boy sitting next to me and I realize that for some reason now that I can talk to him I don't want to share this with anyone else.

It's like, for some reason, I want him all to myself.

"That would be weird," I say, instead, "My friends are weird."

He smiles, "Okay, well it was great to get to speak to you, but I'm very busy, as you might imagine."

I nod.

"Call me later, after all your classes are over. Unless you have more work to do, in that case, do the work and get rest. I don't want to keep you up again."

"Why are you so much nicer over the phone?"

"Because I'm out in public and people can hear me."

"Thanks."

He laughs. "Will you call me later?"

"Yeah, bye!" I say, smiling.

"Bye, darling."

He hangs up.

I slump back against the tree we're eating lunch under.

"I can't believe it's really him."

Shyren giggles. "It's like your fanfiction."

I blush and sit up quickly.

"You weren't supposed to know about that."

"I found your Wattpad."

"Great."

Nick is laughing now, too.

Shyren and Nick are nice, but I really miss Undyne. So far college sucks. My friends go out to parties and leave me alone in my tiny apartment I just want to go back to Toronto and see my brother and Undyne.

But I'll be okay. Not every college outcast becomes friends with a celebrity.
