“It requires complicated magic and all the other people who’ve done it in the past end up dead.”

         “You know I don’t care. I have a daughter and it’s fine.”

“Zelena, aren’t you going to give me a son?”

“No Hades I’m not, you have a daughter. You have two daughters and you’re just going to have to accept the fact that you’ll never have a son.”

I always loved the fact that my sister was always so brutally honest. The kingdom would be gathering soon for yet another royal announcement and in a month’s time, the council would gather in the sacred chambers of magic and people protection. The royal chamber cleaners would have to prepare the chamber for the council’s arrival. I kissed my new niece and followed Mother out of Zelena’s room. Zelena and Hades needed to discuss their daughter’s name and they needed to go over a few very important details.  I on the other hand needed to prepare for the royal announcement of a new royal addition and get my day old twins ready for the announcement.

I knew Robin was in the throne room with daddy and together they were discussing the best options to plan and enact two coronations, an abdication and three christenings. I knew that Emerald Rose was already in her chambers playing with her dolls and my daughters were in their nursery with their maids. I quickly changed with a wave of my hand and wore a light pink frock with my sapphire tiara. I loved being able to change with a sweep of my hand. I ventured into my apple garden and let all my worries run down my back. I was a new mother, I was queen and soon Father would abdicate and raising children as Empress would be so hard. I remember when Daddy became Emperor after Grandfather passed away. Daddy’s only been emperor for twenty years. Zelena was two when daddy became Emperor and my kingdom went without a queen until I turned 16.

The apple orchid was peaceful at this time of day. The sun hadn’t yet begun to set and the people would be arriving soon for another royal announcement. It was a little chilly but I was happy to be so far south or it would have been freezing right now. I really should check on the twins. It had been three hours since I last checked on them. I gathered my skirts and began walking back towards the palace. Why did I walk? I walked because I didn’t want to waste my magic on the mundane. I could have easily teleported up to their room and had them in my arms in an instant but no I walked.

When the sun had set in the west and Zelena had time to recuperate from her hard labor, I began dressing the girls for their second royal viewing. I watched their little chests move up and down with each little breath. I stared at the tiny cuff on Megan’s wrist and I wanted to cry. In their first day of life they had been through enough royal encounters to last them a lifetime. Bexana Laurie and Megan Sophiana had been through so much in their first hours of life and now a day after I bore them to Robin, they had a new cousin, they had titles and they had a name to uphold for themselves. I felt sorry that I had to put my twins through so much and I was sad that I hadn’t bonded with them in those nine months. I really also wished that the Queen Megara had not been reborn in my daughter Megan.

I decided to let Megan sleep because she had a rough day on her first day of life. I took Bexana from her silver cradle and rocked her in my arms. She began to cry and I comforted her and told her that everything would be fine. I changed her diaper and fed her hungry stomach. Within the first few seconds of feeding she suckled the silver bottle dry. I filled it once more and she drank all her milk. Bex would be my hungry little soldier. I changed her diaper again and changed her clothes. I took her silver dress out of the chest and noticed how each silver feather held complex detail. Once Bexana was dressed I placed her in her silver cradle and watched her drift back to sleep.

Megan’s little magic blocker needed a little bit of sparkle. I coated it with diamonds and sapphires and emeralds and garnets. I picked her out of her cradle and changed her diaper. Megan was so tiny and so innocent, I didn’t care if she had killed her three brothers, and Megan was my little baby girl, the baby that shared the exact same birth time with me. I fed her a bottle and put her in the same dress that Bexana wore. Megan’s brown curls were so angelic and they looked almost blonde. Her blue eyes held the same sparkle that Robin’s did and Megan no longer bore the mark of a queen. Megan was no longer heir to the throne and I wondered who was now. I knew Bexana couldn’t have the birthmark.

When the sun had set and the stars came out, Robin came into the nursery. He wore his navy blue uniform and a smile so kind and simple that I couldn’t help but smile myself. He picked Megan out of her crib and I took Bexana. I shared a kiss with him
