6. Darkness Five: Mina

"Are you sure you're okay, miss Lewis?" El asked for assurance that I replied with a slight nod.

He's actually been asking the same question five times now ever since we left the mansion and he never missed to ask me every two minutes inside this running car he's driving. For the first two are you sure you're okay question, I actually replied a formal assurance and an appreciative thanks. By the third question I simply said yes. Then by the fourth question, I simply hummed a yes. And now I just nodded.

It was the first time he let himself use a car when he's with me. It must be because I was too upset to even hold on to him if ever I'd get to be too emotional in a motorbike. Like right now that I have to wipe my tears that seemed to want to escape out of my eyes. Its been irritating too since I'm already calm but the tears weren't even dry.

Again El glanced at me into the rareview mirror then turned to look back on the road before speaking. "Are you really sure you're fine?" He asked again.

I sighed and gave a looked at him giving out a smile. "I'm okay El, thanks. I swear I'm fine." I said trying to sound with finality but as polite as I could.

He may seem to understood what I wanted to say and just gave a nod, focusing his eyes on the road ways. We were quiet for minutes then when I heard him spoke. "Am I irritating you?" He asked.

"H-huh?!" I asked surprised. "No. Of course not." I denied waving a hand at him to to say that I'm not.

"Just tell me if you're irritated. I can hide my worries if you want to." He uttered.

I felt my face flushed in shame over what he seemed to notice about me. He knew I was irritated, and I wasn't able to hide it from him. "I'm sorry about that." I said. "For the passed three years, I lived without anyone's pity to kept me on."

"Miss Lewis... Please don't put yourself down too much. The way you put things through yourself is your wall." He said.

"You don't need to care about that. I need that wall." I said back sighing as I watched the trees we passed by. "Without it I would be afraid forever." I added sincerely.

"You don't have to. I'm already here, you're not alone anymore." His warm hand landed on my hand making me surprised, pulling my hand back away from him. When I realized what I did I looked down ashamed of my weird action.

"I'm sorry." I apologized.

"Its alright I understand." He replied calmly.

"Y-you're not angry?" I asked.

"Do you want to know?" He asked back.

"No." I quickly answered. It suddenly gave a scare when he asked me that. It suddenly chilled me that's why I decided not to cross path with his rage.

"Miss Lewis, is there a way I could cheer you up?" He asked.

"Its okay. I easily get carried up when I know its fun."

"I'm sorry for not being humorous." He apologized again.

"Stop apologizing okay..." I uttered.

He stopped talking and made his drive faster. He must be annoyed with my right now because I kept on restricting him. It made me felt guilty that made me put my head low and play around my fingers. Why did I say such a thing? Now it felt very awkward.

He finally made a halt. But the break was reluctant that I nearly hit the front from his sudden stop. "What happened?!" I asked in a matter of panic as I watched him quickly ran out of his car as I followed him with my gaze until I saw a girl standing in a sidewalk followed by El approaching her. I wonder why he made a sudden stop just to approach a girl, does he know her?

They spoke a little while until El pointed into this car that he was driving. The beautiful girl simply nodded and they started walking towards this car making me suddenly feel unease. Why is he bringing that girl over? What's going on? And when he reached the front seat where my door is, he opened it and looked at me.

"W-what?" I asked nervously.

"Can I ask you to move at the back, miss Lewis? I think you wouldn't be able to take fast drives, considering the car accident you've experienced. I would recommend that you transfer." With a straight face, El demanded my seat and it suddenly felt unbelievable that he'd dig up that accident just to move me back.

I forced out a smile before getting off the car. "Well, if you just wanted to say that you'd be driving in Godspeed just tell me. You don't have to tell what I'm hardly trying to forget because its severely sensitive." I emphasized. I started walking towards the backseat and gave a second of pause until I realized that he will not open the door for me so I had to do it myself.

It feel kind of insulting. This has been the first time I opened the door for myself and I never realized that I'm annoyed because that person who was suppose to treat me well was the one treating me like some sort of... Nuisance.

He let that beautiful girl in to the front seat before he got back to his seat and drove and to my surprise, he was actually driving slower than earlier! He even warned me about his driving skills and this is what he's doing?! What is he trying to prove?

"Been a while Van Eldrin." The girl started up the conversation with her angelic voice. But wait, his name is Van Eldrin?

"Uh-huh. How have you been?" El asked back.

"Doing fine. And who's this girl with you?" She asked taking a glance at me over the rareview mirror.

"My acquaintance." He simply replied.

It suddenly feels heavy. Why did he deny me? And who is she?

"Mind me introducing?" She looked back at me and lend a hand. "I'm Mina, El's friend."

"She's my ex." El suddenly straightened that made both of us looked at him. Now it suddenly gave a flash of pinch in my chest.

"What's with you Eldrin?! You don't have to open that up in front of a kid." She said embarrassed hitting El lightly on the shoulder as she blushes hardly.

While I in the other hand admired her. She was really pretty and I have to say that she has the highest advantage of being liked by El-- what am I talking about?!

"How about you? What's your name?" She asked back.

"Ashreigh Lewis." I replied taking her hand and shook it. "Feel free to address me from what suits you." I said formally.

"Oh." She said beaming brightly at me. "Nice to meet you then, Lewis. I think that name suits you better." She said.

"Thanks."

Then she sat in front again and  turned to El. "So, Eldrin. Where are you going?"

"Anywhere." El replied back.

"Oh, then why not just come to the party today? One of our old schoolmates held a good house party just nearby. I also invited Caile and Jack. I'm sure they'll come since those two guys of yours are such party types." She suggested.

El nodded seemingly agreeing to Mina and didn't even looked back to consult me. "Sure, that's great."

Great?! All the way he looked to me, he doesn't look like a guy who loves party. He's quiet, serious and mysterious! How can I believe that he likes parties? But the counter part... Maybe Mina was his motivation to go there.
