16. Arrival and Funeral

The white light slowly faded and Lana found herself atop a black horse. She looked down and noticed she wore a black lace dress with a back veil in her mahogany hair. She was heavily pregnant and a black coffin was being pulled in a cart ahead of her. The coffin was decorated with red and white roses. Each rose had a silver or gold ribbon around it. Following close beside her was Rebecca. Bex wore a black hat over her red hair and she also wore a black dress. She also rode a black horse. When the entourage entered the cemetery a man helped Lana off her horse and another man let Bex off her horse. When Bex’s coat was moved to the side it was obvious that she was pregnant as well. No children were in the entourage so that meant that they had been pulled too far back in time or to far forward.

“Princess Miamiamo you look well! Has Prince Alex prepared himself for duties yet?”

Lana looked up at the man and saw Marcus’s grin. He knew very well what was going on and he knew that he was too be playing along.

“Marcus I’m new at this game. Remind me what your name is?”

“Prince Caspian. Sean is Prince Alexander at the moment and you are Princess Miamiamo or Mia for short. Rebecca over there is my darling wife the Duchess Marie. I have found out why she wasn’t present when we first came hither. Sean informed me that my wife had died in childbirth.”

Rebecca came over a few minutes earlier and was listening in on the conversation. Her face had an expression of mortification on it and tears streamed down her face. Lana hugged her friend and held her as close as she could with both their pregnant bellies.

“Bex it’s okay. We’ll get through this. Sean has changed the past once before he can do it again. Remember what you always told me when we made a mistake in the commuter systems?”

“Time can be rewritten.”

Marcus kissed his wife’s cheek and kept the entourage moving along. They had to get off their horses so they could pay respects to the deceased king. Lana still hadn’t figured out who the dead person was.

The white light slowly faded and Rebecca found herself atop a black horse. She looked down and noticed she wore a black lace dress with a back veil in her copper hair. She was heavily pregnant and a black coffin was being pulled in a cart ahead of her. The coffin was decorated with red and white roses. Each rose had a silver or gold ribbon around it. Following close beside her was Lana. Lana wore a black veil over her mahogany hair and she also wore a black dress. She also rode a black horse. When the entourage entered the cemetery a man helped Bex off her horse and another man let Lana off her horse. When Lana’s coat was moved to the side it was obvious that she was pregnant as well. No children were in the entourage so that meant that they had been pulled too far back in time or too far forward.

Rebecca looked up at the man who had helped her down and didn’t recognize his face. He didn’t seem familiar at all. She began looking for Lana and Sean or even her husband. She quickly saw them conversing over near the now still coffin. She spotted Sean beside the coffin with his head lowered in grief.

“Duchess Marie. I see you are looking well.”

“Thank you sire. You look healthy also.”

Bex ran over to where her husband was and managed to hear them talk about her dying in childbirth. She was held in Lana’s arms and then the trumpets sounded. Marcus kissed his wife’s cheek and pushed the two ladies forwards. The entrance to the royal burial grounds were lined with peasants all dressed in black and holding white roses in their hands.
