Zelena

Sunlight streamed through my windows and I was bathed in its warmth. The little birdies sang a merry tune and kindly asked me to open my eyes so I wouldn’t miss out on this perfect day. Today I was to be married to the kind and noble King Robin Hood of Sherwood Forrest. I knew Robin and I would be equally pleased with each other and the setting couldn’t be more perfect. My wedding dress was made of silk and had a white tulle material over it. In the tulle material were tiny little pearls. My sleeves were elbow length and the edges had little pearls stitched into them. My veil was a layer upon layers of Belgian lace with even more little pearls. My favorite part of my wedding attire was my glass slippers. My perfect little glass slippers to make the wedding even more magnificent and on top of it all I was at last allowed to wear Mother’s diamond tiara upon my copper curls.

1. Pre Wedding Rituals

Did I forget to mention that I was a princess? Yes, I am the Crown Heir to the kingdom of Enchantria and I have a younger sister. My sister Regina is quite different from me. For example I have red curls that end at my waist and ice blue eyes with a hint of green. My skin is slightly golden in color and I’m about four inches taller than her. She’s a year younger than me. Regina has mahogany hair that falls straight down her back. She has chocolate eyes and caramel colored skin. The entire kingdom loves their little darling princess but she’s not the heir to the throne nor is she marrying the famous thief turned king.

Regina and Robin have a bit of a history together. Once long ago they were in love and short story short when they asked Father, King Henry if they could marry. He replied with the simple statement that said that Robin had been betrothed to me since our births and he was the long lost Sherwoodian prince. He was crowned King and a celebration was held to announce our engagement. Regina’s been very angry with me ever since and I doubt that those two ever stopped loving each other. Then again I would become Robin’s wife and queen in less than two hours. I was ready to marry him. My dress was on, my shoes upon my feet, my hair all prettied up, my veil pinned tight to my tiara and the blue roses in my hand. Mother or Queen Cora stood by my side. She would leave me with Father when we arrived at the chapel. I tried to smile and I tried not to cry but the tears came rolling down before the carriage arrived.

“Does he even love me Mother?”

“Zelena, this marriage isn’t about love. It’s to unite both our kingdoms. Love will come later after an heir is produced.”

“ Regina stated a couple days ago that she would marry Robin soon after this. Is it true?”
I looked into my Mother’s eyes and saw the sparks flicker. Whenever something true was said her eyes would be engulfed with flames. So it was true. My sister Regina would marry my husband Robin in a matter of a few years. I had only a few moments to convince Robin to love me, he was Regina’s soul mate and I was standing in between her and him.

“Look at you all prettied up. Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.”

“My veil was grandmother’s, my dress is new, the tiara is borrowed and my glass shoes are blue. So are the roses.”

“Zelena, your sister will become Robin’s wife but she will never be his queen. What you say goes. Your father almost married after me. In fact he did marry after me. She tried to take over so I had her executed. She may be your sister but taking over is treason.”

“Mother I would never have Regina executed. I hate her but not that much. I might just throw a fireball at her for punishment or cuff her like she did so long ago to me.”
“Zelena that was an alternate reality.”

“I know Mother. Let’s go get married.”
