Peculiar Poetry

Poetry with and without reason and rhyme.
Strange is what I strive for.
Expect lyrics and limericks, free verse and format.
Be prepared for bubbly and boiled, terrifying and horrifying.
Keep an eye out for those that provoke your thoughts, and some that bear no thought at all.
Many written for class, and others without much of it.
Feel free. There are no boundaries. Just think.
Consider, Ponder, Wonder, Imagine.
Argue, Oppose, Debate, Defend.
Perhaps you will be offended.
That's good.
Think about that.
Learn more of what you think.
How you think.
Take what you can from what you hate.
I don't seek to preach.
I only speak my mind.
A mind most peculiar.

13. "Faith"

I know it bears no logic

Believe me, I'm aware

I've lain upon my bed at night

Worked my mind into a mess

Connected odds to wayward ends

Come upon discoveries

That would merit me various passionate words

Because that's what we kids call a "win" these days

I think back to the scholars of long ago

In Greece, as I recall

Curious men who longed to know

What was real, what was true

Where and why our morals were

And why across the land and sea

We all seem to somewhat agree

They debated a concept I've heard once or twice

A topic on absolute truth

How nothing we know is truly that

For the proof we find needs proof in turn

A vicious cycle starts to whir

And we, the slothful human race

Discard the paradox

That's what it is, a paradox

One that can't be solved

I know that many try and try

And try some more to no avail

As the wise men say, there seems no such thing

As an absolutely absolute truth

Sometimes, I want to lug around

A book that's aged with mankind

And when people matter-of-factly explain

That I have no good reason to think as I do

I thrust the hard back into their arms

And their pipes void of wind, they peer down before them

Text that spells out DICTIONARY

I would ask them politely to turn to the F's

They'd inquire of me at this point

I would say them sweetly, "I thought you should learn

The definition of the simple word

Faith."

The evidence of things unseen—

I've heard that one as well

A proof that doesn't need more proof

The cycle is abruptly ceased with faith

So I have reason to believe as I do

Because I believe it through this faith

Religion requires a faith no doubt

I'm sure you know that well

And that is why we seem to scold

Those who wear it on their sleeve

Around their neck

Over their head

In their skin

But have you ever stopped and thought

Of all else that calls for foundation?

You read it on the internet

Why do you think it's true?

You heard it on that talk show

Did they provide the proof for their proof?

That guy on the news said it, did he?

Well, he must be a deity

The teacher speaks it loud and clear

And therefore it's absolute

This scientist says he knows what we are

And he's smart, so he must know it all

Why are we so afraid to confess

That we believe these things through faith?

Why do we oppress all those who do

Like dirty hypocrites?

Is it really all that wrong to say

This world cannot prove itself?

We all put our faith into something

Whether before us or unseen

I said it bears no logic

Even now it still holds true

But after all I've contemplated

What does logic have to boast?
