Peculiar Poetry

Poetry with and without reason and rhyme.
Strange is what I strive for.
Expect lyrics and limericks, free verse and format.
Be prepared for bubbly and boiled, terrifying and horrifying.
Keep an eye out for those that provoke your thoughts, and some that bear no thought at all.
Many written for class, and others without much of it.
Feel free. There are no boundaries. Just think.
Consider, Ponder, Wonder, Imagine.
Argue, Oppose, Debate, Defend.
Perhaps you will be offended.
That's good.
Think about that.
Learn more of what you think.
How you think.
Take what you can from what you hate.
I don't seek to preach.
I only speak my mind.
A mind most peculiar.

6. "A Limerick of Innocence"

She was seven years old, just a child

A spirit so innocent and wild

Life as perfect as could be

Joy as far as she could see

Nothing could stand up against such a smile.

At the age of nine she was the same

A personality that no force could tame

Yet those she considered her friends

Were picking up on some trends

That somehow she didn't retain.

Eleven was a strange year no doubt

Grown-up terms that she couldn't figure out

She didn't know what they meant

Felt quite incompetent

And so she traveled down a dangerous route.

Twelve years was drowned in sorrow

Never before had she fallen so low

Felt that not even her Father

would ever think love her

She saw no point in waking tomorrow.

An idiot, she thought her; a mistake

Someone surely God didn't mean to make

Dark was all she could see

Let the tears run on free

Even that smile she put on was a fake.

Yet at fourteen, she was still here

Hallelujah! I praise most sincere

For though her life was not mended

She had never thought to end it

Quite a miracle she emerged safe that year.

Three years have gone by, and now I see

The young woman God has made her to be

And even though she's a mess

And doesn't deserve happiness

Although she's far from "great"—

You can call it luck

or even fate...

But I know for a fact

That He

Had always been there for me.
