Isabelle Malory is a normal Muggle. She's excited for an exchange coming up with a school called Hogwarts, that she's never heard of before...but Hogwarts may be closer to home than she realizes...

2. Dormmates

A few minutes later, a boy with messy black hair and glasses, a girl with bushy brown hair, and a gangly boy with red hair walked into our dorm. We "Muggles" (me, Kaitlin, and another boy from our grade) were laying on our beds. There were three more beds that seemed to perfectly fit into our dorm, with plenty of space left for our belongings. The kids walked up and introduced themselves. The boy with the glasses said he ,was Harry Potter, the girl said she was Hermione Granger, and the tall boy said he was Ron Weasley. We introduced ourselves(Isabelle Malory, Kaitlin Warrington, and Alex Ashner). Hermione sat down on the bed next to me, Ron on her other side, and Harry on Ron's other side. "So, do you like Hogwarts?" I asked, determined to find out if this whole magic thing was real. Hermione didn't seem like the type of person to be in on a prank. All three of them nodded.

"Since we're halfway through our first year, we've learned lots of magic already." Hermione said. I raised my eyebrows. "So, magic is real?" I said a bit skeptically. Harry didn't answer. He just raised a very-well carved stick that looked like a wand and said, "Expaliarmus!" Nothing happened. "Harry, you've got to point it at somebody with a wand." Hermione said. "Oh, yeah. Well, we learned it a whole month ago. How I was I supposed to remember?" Harry said. Hermione just sighed. Harry turned around from pointing his wand at me and pointed it at Ron. He did the same thing and the wand, for I'd decided that's what it must be, flew out of his hand.

Kaitlin, Alex, and I were amazed. "Show us more magic!" Alex said. Ron went next. "Accio wand!" he said, and his wand flew back into his hand(Harry forgot to give it back). They showed us much more magic, but Hermione was pretty silent most of the time. "Hermione?" I said. "Huh? What?" she said, her head snapping up from where it had been staring at the floor. I asked her if something was wrong and she shook her head. "Well, I've just been thinking about something...." she replied. "Malory is a rather common last name." she said. I nodded. "I know, I've heard it my whole life." I said. She shook her head. "No, it's a common last name for wizarding families." she said. My mouth dropped open. "But I can't be a witch. My parents are Muggles. So is my big brother, they live back in London." Harry nodded. "That would you make you a Muggle-born, like Hermione." he said. "Wait, just wait. What about Malory being a common last name for wizarding families? My family isn't a wizarding family." I said.

"It could have been, long ago. Like, some of your great grandparents could have been a witch and a Muggle, then they had kids, who were both Muggles, and so then there started being just Muggles. But somewhere along the line, it's likely that a witch or wizard would come along because from that witch or wizard long ago, there is still magical blood running in the family." Ron explained. Hermione and Harry nodded. Kaitlin and Alex stared at me. Harry gave me his wand and told me to say,"Lumos!" So I did, and a light came on at the end of the wand. I couldn't believe it. I was a witch!
