Today, Tomorrow, Forever

The birds chirp outside my window and wake me up from my beautiful dream. As I was dreaming I dreamt of a strange figure in a hood that seemed to be my fiancée. You see this afternoon I will marry a man that I don’t know. I don’t want to marry him but my mother gave me no choice. Last year I was ready to marry my lover Daniel, Mother found out and crushed his heart in front of me. I will never forgive her ever.
The birds chirp as my get me ready for the family breakfast, more commonly known as the royal breakfast. My favorite maid, Esme braids my hair and pins it in place with a silver comb as Megan shows me an array of dresses. My other maid Kate, whom I don’t like, polishes my shoes and Kaila makes my bed and cleans my room. I have four maids to do my bidding and a castle full of servants. These fours maids will be moving with me and I will bid all the others goodbye.

1. Family Breakfast

The birds chirp as my maids get me ready for the family breakfast, more commonly known as the royal breakfast.

“Your highness the light blue dress with cream lining or the red dress with gold specks?”

“The blue one, pack the red.”

Today I would wear a total of six dresses. I would choose five and the rest would be packed away and shipped to my new home. I had over a hundred dresses and was always getting a new one. Soon my new husband would have to take the task of buying me new and wonderful dresses. My taste are expensive is all I have to say to that.

“Princess, the lavender dress or the amber dress for today?”
“The amber one is my kind of color. Pack the lavender.”

“Three more dress choices. Would you just like to look through your wardrobe?”

“No this is so much more fun.”

“The emerald green or yellow?”

“Neither packs them both.”

“Sapphire and silver or green and black?”
“Sapphire and silver, the blue cream, the amber dress, the royal red and white with the maroon and black riding suit.”

“Well that covers it. We’re all done.”

Esme finishes braiding my hair and then Megan helps me into my dress. Kate hands me a pair of blue flats and I put them on. Then Kaila comes over and helps me stand up from my chair. I’m at ease and yet I’m not ready to get married later this evening. I lead the way to the dining room and my ladies follows. They would sit on benches against the wall behind a screen whilst I enjoyed one last meal with my family. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye. Most of all whom I would miss was my eldest sister. Zelena was a constant always and when she moved back in after her husband’s death, I never thought about leaving her.

I walk down the steps and the servant’s kneel as I pass through the halls. My gold and garnet engagement ring sparkles on my finger. My dear fiancée had sent it to me a long time ago. I never met him and I didn’t know his name. All I know is that it’s an arranged marriage. I enter the dining room and my little nephew greets me. Charles is two years old and he looks exactly like his mother. I pick him up and carry him to the table. I put him in his chair and smile as my family looks on at me.

I take my seat and wait for Daddy to toast to my health and my marriage. I watch Zelena as she tries to get her son to eat. She misses her husband, she moved back when he died and ever since then she wasn’t the same as she had been. I watch her eat and I eat my last meal at home. I will miss her and I don’t want to leave her. We eat in silence and then Papa begins to speak.

“Are you ready Regina?”

“Yes Papa, I’m ready. I will miss you all. Especially you Sis.”

“I’ll miss you too Gina.”

“Lena don't cry. I’ll come home on vacation. I will be queen and so will you? Your husband was a good prince but he would have never been king.”

“REGINA! APOLOGIZE.”

“I’m sorry Zelena.”

“No Mother it’s fine. She’s right.”

“Really Zelena, no it’s not.”

“Actually Harold deserved his fate. He wasn’t a good father to Charles and I’m glad to be home.”

I eat in silence and listen to the rest of my family make joyful conversation. The palace is abuzz with wedding preparations and all the servants seem to be busy packing up my dresses, shoes, jewelry, paintings, bedding and other items. I’m not ready to get married and yet today I have no choice. My fate was sealed, my life was nearly complete and soon I would leave to my beautiful destiny. My heart was buried with the life of my precious Daniel and yet I was going to marry a man I didn’t know.

After breakfast is over Mother goes to direct the church decorations, Father decides to attend to the subjects coming to bear gifts and Zelena goes off to clean up Charles. Today my nephew would wear a charming little light blue suit and his red hair would be arranged in a perfect arrangement. If you can imagine a miniature Zelena in a suit, then you can see Charles in his outfit.
