The Dead Zone

Vampires came out several years ago, and began to set up small communities within large cities across the globe. Soon, werewolves joined them and so did demons.

In the panic, these communities were walled off from the rest of the world and became 'The Dead Zones'. No human life inside, due to the supposed 'high-risk of infection'.

Only certain humans are allowed to work there and even then, your job might not keep you safe.

Freda Ackerstone is an average student, with a slightly above average in biology and history, the only extraordinary things about her are her height, the scars and her quietness.

When the 'Blood Lot' is drawn for each school across the city, Freda's is one of the names pulled out. It's a life changing opportunity, one that most would die for.

It means that from now on, Freda is part of 'The Dead Zone' in her city and there, the rules don't apply.

1. Prologue

The Blood Lot came around every year, and every year, five would enter, none would leave.

Two hundred years ago, Vampires came into the world and claimed to want to work with humanity to move forwards. Of course, we accepted them with open arms, but then the attacks started.

After the attacks began, Werewolves joined the fray. They were probably more vicious than the Vampires, slaughtering without concern for age.

Soon, the Demons arrived and some records of that time, claimed that the Hell Gates had opened. It seemed like they had, but it got better for humanity.

The governments of the world built walls around the settlements of creatures, with only two gates and heavily armed guards at all times on the wall. Soon, negotiations started.

Then came the Blood Lot.

Five people from the local human population were selected, and sent into these camps, to sink or swim with the supernaturals. Some were Turned, most died.

Due to the famously high Human mortality rate, these Ares got a name, that now stands true through-out the world.

Welcome to the Dead Zone, population; Not breathing.
