Wanted Girl

Ashlynn is no ordinary teenager. Literally radioactive, she's used to strict rules, weird looks at school, sad looks from her father at home, critisism everywhere, and the constant wiped-out feeling from keeping her radiation low 24/7. But, one day, her whole life changes when she learns that quarantine officers are coming to arrest her. Instead of following her society's rule of staying put in the face of authority, she breaks every rule in society, and runs. Now she's a danger to society, an Unnatural, and a Wanted girl. She joins the anti-authority group Atomic Blast in the hopes of staying safe and rebelling against society. But no-one can hide forever.....

2. Don't Look Back.

Sorry I haven't updated this story in a while, my fanfiction is practically soaring, so I put most of my attention onto that. Leave ideas in the comments. Enjoy!!!

As I run down the street, the cold night air cools my boiling skin. I get to the end of the street before I realize I didn't think about where I'd actually go. Then two words scream in my mind.

Atomic Blast.

My eyes are starting to burn, my skin tingles and I'm out after the 11'o clock curfew. I look into a dark window and see myself reflected back, green light spilling from my eyes and my skin glowing dully. I look like a freak. Adrenaline runs through my blood and my heart's racing. I need to get out of sight and fast. I head to the woods near the edge of town, towards the long-abandoned cabin. It's full of damp and mildew and quietly rotting, but at least it's quiet, dark and out of sight. Suddenly, I hear loud footsteps, and I run long and fast, almost diving into the cover of the trees. No-one bothers with the woods like they used to in the Old Days, before the war destroyed almost everything. I don't stop running until I reach the cabin, then I crash through the door. I feel something heavy in my pocket, and I realize it's my phone. I take it out then pull out the battery. I don't want anyone tracking me. That's the last thing I need. I collapse onto the floor, my eyes full-on burning like fire. They light up the cabin. I take deep breaths, trying to calm down. I'm more tired than I've ever been in my life, and I lie down and let the numb blackness of sleep take over me.

(In the morning.)

I wake as thin, watery morning light is forcing it's way through the curtains. I hear nothing but silence. Then, suddenly, the sound of breathing that isn't my own. I blink sleep out of my eyes and sit up in alarm. I make out the shadowy figure of a person in the corner, and alarm bells ring in my head. The last thing I need is to be found. Especially now, when I've broken half of the Protection's rules. My mouth feels sandpapery and my words come out in a whisper.

"Hello?" the figure turns towards me, and I immediately see that he isn't wearing the white Hazmat suits and gas masks that the Quarantine Officers wear, nor the uniform of the regular Protection Officers. I sigh quietly in relief. The figure comes out of the shadows, and I see that the figure is actually a boy. His hair is messy and caramel-colored, and his eyes are a piercing blue.

"Hey. I saw you come in last night. You're radioactive, right? Bet the Quarantine Officials are after you." His voice is kind of deep, his tone slightly humorous, mocking, light. I'm still wary, still scared, but a bit more relaxed. I don't trust him, though. He could turn me in at any moment. I let my eyes burn a little, and I know my skin has turned slightly discoloured and glows dully.

"Don't touch me. Yes, I'm radioactive. And yes, I am running from the Protection. But lay one finger and I swear to God I'll..." my voice tails away as I see him smile.

"Relax. It's fine, I'm not going to turn you in. I'm running too, actually, so going anywhere near the Protection's labs will be a bit of a disaster." He tells me. I catch onto one word, and it echoes silently in my head.

"Labs?" I repeat weakly. His eyes sparkle with laughter, and the edges of his mouth twitch. He's laughing at me. I brush my messy brown hair out of my eyes, and over my shoulder then stand up. He's slightly taller than me, and looks maybe a couple of years older, too.

"Yes, the labs, idiot. You're radioactive, for God's sake. If they get you, they'll run tests with very painful chemicals and stuff on you, then kill you if they fail, which they always do. You know how they want to neutralize the radiation outside the Barrier so more people can live there. If they get you, you'll die, period." All of this is overload. I knew a little, sure, but I didn't know all of this. He sees my disturbed, scared expression on my face, and softens a bit.

"Anyway, what's your name? Hey, I'm sorry, I thought you knew this! I didn't mean to upset you! I'm Liam." I begin crying, and manage to choke out my name between sobs. I never knew it was this bad. My mother...

"Ashlynn." Liam comes over and hugs me, trying to comfort me.

"shh, shh, shhhh. It's all ok, I promise. I won't let them catch you, Ashlynn. I'm from Atomic Blast. Some of our members are radioactive." I stop crying. He walks towards the broken door, and I follow him out into the light, tear-stained and dishevelled.
