Shift in Reality

Carrie Kiss is the new girl in a perfectly normal town or so it seems. Living beside the woods has been the ideal scenery for starting anew. That is until she gets an unexpected guest. Because Carrie has a secret. One that has her running away from everything she once knew and believed.

Liam Kimber is the resident badass. Somewhat of a loner, no one dares to cross him at least if they value their life. Apart from being the son of an Alpha, he is the strongest and most brutal werewolf of them all.

What happens when these two people, both attempting to escape their destiny, cross paths? Let's just say, sparks will fly.

11. The beginning

This is so frustrating. For nights now I have been having recurring dreams about my fifth birthday. Before the point where I open my eyes and run to the swing and Roni appears to say it's time to go home. I give up with trying, every morning I wake up from the blasted dream which could tell me more about my life.

"Vali have you seen the hot new guy?"

I got drawn out of my thoughts to see my best friend Sally sit down beside me. Everyone has been making a fuss over some new guy in the school, who they claim is so hot and sexy that I'd finally succumb to dating a guy.

"I will know it, when the right guy comes along, not judging by someone looks."

Sally rolled her eyes at me. I stuck my tongue out at her instead. It's not like I haven't gone on dates with boys, just none of them have felt right neither has their kisses. I even thought about trying the same sex, but that didn't even seem less repulsing than kissing the wrong guys, till I finally gave up, I would know when the right one comes along.

"Just you wait and see him; he looks like definite Mr Right for you."

She stopped talking about him and I was happy. Roni's birthday is coming up. She is turning thirty and this year I wanted to throw her a surprise party. Since I could remember Roni has never dated anyone and it is high time she did. So this party could be the right opportunity.

After school, I headed for my car Sally with me, talking about how our half-term had been, she had flown off to Hawaii with her family, I was meant to go, but Roni had begged and begged me not to leave her alone.

"Don't look now, but Goldie is heading over with the hot guy."

I groaned while Sally only laughed "Why don't you date him? Why do you want to hand me the hot guy onmind my pun a golden platter?" Sally laughed harder. I felt him when he was near me. That should have warned me that he indeed was different and not like the rest of the guys around.

"Vali and Sally, have you both been avoiding me all day?"

Sally snorted. I have been avoiding Goldie because she had the new guy joined to her hips and cause of Sally's constant nagging I didn't want to meet him at least not soon. I steeled myself scolding myself for my stupidity and looked at themGoldie was introducing the new guy to us. "Here beside me is Zarin."

Upon sighting him something strange happened, my body felt like it was being electrocuted and I blacked out.

She woke up from her sleep with a start why was she remembering this now? She sighed and fell back on her bed, she was at home. Mera and Lenard had come back yesterday before she had even woken up, so she spent Saturday in her cottage with no visits from anyone thankful, but she was sad especially when she didn't even sight her wolf.

Liam came back home that night because Lenard said Liam had woken early and taken the kids out. Just say she hadn't seen him since he kissed her and she was more than bummed about it. It was like he was avoiding her when it should even be her avoiding him.

Tony hadn't even bothered to call her, so she had given up on boys all together again. She decided to go on a stroll through the forest to calm herself and in hopes, the wolf would join her. Right now she could really feel how lonely her life had become. She missed Sally and Goldie more than anything, but she couldn't contact them, if she didn't want to be found and also so Zarin wouldn't hurt them because of her, he was that mad.

It was a joke how Xiva believed she was the one who could turn Zarin to the sweet little boy he once was when simply he had just become obsessive and his switch box had blown and was very unfixable. She stepped out of her house and took in the fresh air and bound into the woods lost in thoughts.

Liam had gone to her house looking for her to only find the house empty, he searched the area for her and saw she was taking a walk through the woods; he would have joined her but instead decided to be lazy. Changed into his wolf form, he patiently lounged on her front porch for her.

No matter what she couldn't get Liam from her head and the kiss kept replaying in her head. Worse yet she hadn't sighted or sensed the wolf at all, she trudged back home defeated only to find the wolf there waiting patiently for her.

"You knew I was looking for you in the woods right?"

The wolf didn't move or acknowledge her presence, she sat beside him and her hand went instantly into his fur rubbing him. "I missed you so much." She said to the wolf, whose inside was turning into butterflies at her declaration. She got up and he followed her indoors.

The wolf stayed with her until he decided, it was time for his human form to go and meet her. He left going to his cabin in the woods for like five minutes before heading back out at a leisure pace back to Carrie's cottage, taking his time, from her speaking to the wolf she liked him more, it's weird how she considered his wolf her best friend.

Carrie was more than surprised to see Tony on her front porch and he was grinning from ear to ear, upon her opening the door he grabbed her and hugged her. She was more than shocked because she hadn't been expecting this reaction from him.

"I owe you for stopping me from kissing you, you're not the right one for me and yesterday I found her."

Carrie didn't know if she should be happy or feel like she had been slapped in the face. She smiled unsurely at him, but Tony was all bright and happy about meeting his mate the night before and how she hadn't let him kiss her.

Liam all brooding and annoyance arrived on her front porch to a gleeful Tony, with Carrie spotting a confused face, he wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not, but Tony to his amusement was all smiles when he saw him

"Liam, why aren't I surprised to find you here? She's all yours, found someone else."

Liam too was equally shocked, happy and felt like punching Tony in the face for his sheer gleeful stupidity.

"Just leave her front porch, you ungrateful moron."

Tony didn't even bother to question Liam and just left still on a high from finding his mate. Carrie turned to him surprised to see him on her front porch, she wasn't expecting him to stop avoiding her so soon.

"Well isn't it the runaway prince."

Liam just laughed sarcastically at her, before putting an arm around her and leading her into her house.

"Do we talk about how Tony was just here or move on to other things?"

Liam asked her a little dazed; cause Tony that happy was actually rare. Carrie nodded her head and he dragged her onto her couch, tucked into his side not letting her go as they spoke about everything but the kiss they had shared, he knew she was nervous, hell he was too, but he couldn't let it show.

It became late and he knew he had to go, because every Sunday night they had a pack meeting, involving all the wolves of the community. He explained he had to get going because he had something to do, but she was more than content to let him go and was miffed that none of them had been brave enough to mention the kiss.

Liam was already going out of her front door when he turned back to her and said: "I forgot something."

She, of course, had asked him "What" and he replied

"This." He cupped her face, bent down and laid his lips on hers.

Soft as silk, gentle as the rain that was still falling. Her hand came up to rest on his shoulder when her mouth yielded so utterly under his, he felt those darker needs clawing for freedom.

She couldn't stop herself from giving, could hold nothing back against such tenderness. Even when the fingers on her face tightened, his mouth remained soft, easy, as if teaching hers what there was, what there could be.

Instinctively she smoothed her hands over the tension in his shoulders and let herself sink into him. He eased away before desire could outrace reason. When she only stared up at him with those exotic eyes blurred, those soft lips parted, he let her go.

"I guess it's just, ah, chemistry." Her heart was pounding in great, hammering leaps.

"Chemistry," he said, "can be dangerous."

"You can't make discoveries without some risks." It should have shocked her, a comment like that coming out of her mouth, such an obvious invitation to continue, to finish. But it seemed natural, and right. "In this case, it's best you know all the elements you're dealing with. How much are you willing to find out, I wonder?"

"I came here to find out all sorts of things." She let out a quiet breath. "I didn't expect to find you."

"No. You're looking for stability to rebuild yourself and forget about your past."

Liam knew he had shocked her about almost nailing all the reasons she was here.

"Still, I'll kiss you again, when I've a mind to."

She angled her head, ignored the quick flutter in her belly. "I'll let you kiss me again when I've a mind to."

"Suddenly, you've got a stronger backbone" Liam announced in amusement "Maybe I do." It pleased her enormously just then to think so. "Maybe I'll have to make it even stronger."

"That you will." His grin faded. "When you do, I hope you know what to do about it."

He gave her hair an absent tug, then turned and walked away. Well, she thought, as days went, it hadn't been half-bad so far.
