4. Scene 2

Scene 2

Eliza is ushering all of her alive children into their house, and is standing by the door as she welcomes them in. There are general murmurs of talking between the children and Eliza and the children between themselves. Alexander walks in last and Eliza closes the door behind them. Mass has just been finished, and that is what they are arriving home from.

ES: Hurry along now, children. Hush hush to the kitchen now, and get yourselves seated. James do help the younger ones along.

Eliza pulls Hamilton off aside as he walks in and she rushes him into a corner.

ES: Alexander, you could have died. If Angelica hadn’t found your letter to Burr you had left on your desk, they could be preparing yourself for the grave right now.

    AH: Eliza, please-

ES: I’m not mad at you. I just can’t imagine you could have left me with seven mouths to feed, not including mine, and widowed, and just... without you.Angelica is going back to Dr. MacDonald tommorow, but- after that…

    AH: Eliza-

ES: I just can’t believe that you would not have been here. God, my heart aches just to think of your absence.

AH: Then don’t think of my absence, my dear Eliza!

ES: I’m just so glad you are safe.

Eliza embraces Alexander in a hug in which he responds to lifting her slightly in the air, and spinning her around, letting her dress and long hair fly through the air. After getting let down, Eliza pats and straightens up her dress and continues to walk into the kitchen with a small laugh, Alexander following her.
