The Histories of the Nilites

In a universe first-glance that seems like ours, the beginning is nowhere the same. The myths of the beginning of this world start with Nihl, primordial darkness and chaos, and how things go from there. (OKAY, SO THESE PEOPLE DO NOT NOT NOT HAVE INCEST DO NOT BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE DNA, OKAY NO DNA, PRIMORDIAL MIST FLOWS THROUGH THEIR BODIES. THEY ARE CONDENSED PRIMORDIAL MIST. NO INCEST. PLEASE NOTE: NO INCEST. THOUGH SOME CHARACTERS ARE STATED TO HAVE DONE HANKY-PANKY, IT IS NOT INCEST, OKAY NONONONONONO INCEST.)

5. Solis

The first child of Vitae was with her brother*. The first child Vitae and her brother Noctem was Solis, the first light source. From Vitae, he gained his giving of life, and then Vitae was able to give things life. Though Solis was balanced out with his father, Noctem, the night. As Solis is only allowed portions of the daytime, he must retreat across the sky, trading places with the waiting Stygian. Eventually, through fleeting conversations, they fell madly in love [this is not until the creation of Terra]. They could never meet, though, because light and darkness cannot cross, at least not for many years, until Luna comes along.

  * [though this is a loose term, because the Nihlas have no DNA, and are made of condensed primordial mist. It’s easiest to refer to the conventional terms of mother, father, daughter, son, sister, brother . The joining of Nihlas refers to them taking their own “souls” and molding a new being, though sometimes Nihlas do form an attraction]
