The Histories of the Nilites

In a universe first-glance that seems like ours, the beginning is nowhere the same. The myths of the beginning of this world start with Nihl, primordial darkness and chaos, and how things go from there. (OKAY, SO THESE PEOPLE DO NOT NOT NOT HAVE INCEST DO NOT BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE DNA, OKAY NO DNA, PRIMORDIAL MIST FLOWS THROUGH THEIR BODIES. THEY ARE CONDENSED PRIMORDIAL MIST. NO INCEST. PLEASE NOTE: NO INCEST. THOUGH SOME CHARACTERS ARE STATED TO HAVE DONE HANKY-PANKY, IT IS NOT INCEST, OKAY NONONONONONO INCEST.)

14. Herba the Nihla of Plant Life

Soon, though, the Nihlas grew tired of seeing the same desert landscape, with huge rivers and oceans. Half of the Nihlas ascended into the sky, searching for Imbrem, while the others went into the mountains to search of Terram’s cave.

The Nihlas that found Imbrem found her fast asleep, breathing softly on rays of light sent from Solis overhead.

Gently, they woke her up, and asked if there was anything she could do. No, she told them, Not alone. Where is Vitae? She could help you. They reminded Imbrem of Vitae’s dwindling life force, and in return, she reminded them of her own. Look at my life force, she said, gesturing to the great waters below, which covered most of the land. I cannot do anything for you, either. One Nihla just asked her why she could not just reabsorb it, because it was tangible, and not put into another being. Imbrem, shocked with realization, did just that, reabsorbing much of the water, but promising to send it down every now and again. They asked her now if she could do anything, but she told them Not alone.

The group that sought out Terram did find him, boredly throwing rocks at his cave wall. It was easy enough to convince him help create something, though he did warn them that his life force was pretty much borrowed.

So the two groups met back up in the village, where Terram and Imbrem agreed to create something new.

From soil, Terram sculpted something with a long trunk, and little things fluffing out from the sides. Imbrem looked closely at it, until finally she put water in it. With a push from Vitae’s life force, it turned green, and quickly grew into a Nihla, whom they all named Herba, the first plant.

Herba, her skin tinged green a bit, her eyes a much richer color of green, and her hair - every color imaginable, and so bright. Herba, infused with Vitae’s life force, began to create plants around the village, though soon they withered and died.

Imbrem, sad because one of her beings was sad, sent down a light rain. As Herba planted in the rain, the plants didn’t die. Amazed, she wanted it to spread on its own, so she created small plants, seeds, and let them do the work. Though she did this, she decided to wander the planet, planting grasses and flowers and bushes and trees.
