Outcasts

The girliest boy in school thinks he deserves to be bullied by his classmates and mistreated by his teachers.
It isn't until Papyrus Font sticks up for him that he realizes he doesn't need to change.
There might be someone out there who loves him for who he is.

*Note: I'm aware that in the underswap AU MTT is a ghost and Blooky is a robot but since they're both humans in this story I'm keeping their original names*

4. Other Boys

On his way home, Mettaton realizes how much trouble he's going to get in. He'd been too fixed on Papyrus and everything he did to be scared.
Now he's terrified.
He steps inside. Napstablook is at drama practice so he's alone with his parents.
His mother is sitting at the kitchen table on her laptop.
"Mom."
She smiles and turns to him.
"Hello, darling. How was school?"
"Not that great."
"I- I have a detention."
"Oh, honey, how did that happen."
"The teacher told me to take off my makeup and I was just about to when a boy defended me. He told the teacher that there was no rule against that and he was right but we both got in trouble."
She frowns.
"Well if anyone deserved to get in trouble for that it should be that boy. Do you want me to talk to his parents?"
"He, um, doesn't have parents."
"Should I talk to that teacher?"
"No, mom, really. It's fine. I'll just stay after on Friday and it'll be fine."
She sighs.
"Alright, but I don't want that kind of thing happening again."
"But, mom, it was the teacher. Not me."
"Still."
"Fine, but I-" he thinks about Papyrus telling him he looked good in pink, "-I'll try to look more like a boy tomorrow," he grumbles.
"Honey, that's not what I meant."
He ignores he and walks upstairs.
That's where his dad is.
"Were you being rude to your mother?"
Mettaton freezes.
"N-No."
He walks downstairs. Mettaton knows he's going to ask his mom about it. He knows she's going to tell him that he got a detention. He knows that no matter who's fault it is he's going to be mad.
Sure enough in a few minutes his father is coming upstairs.
He sits on the end of Mettaton's bed, where Mettaton is sitting.
"We need to talk."
Mettaton nods.
"Why don't you ever want to act like other boys? I wasn't worried about this before, when you were younger, but you're going to graduate soon and you still don't have a girlfriend."
"I'm sorry," he answers, "I'm just not like that. I'm a boy, but I'm not like that. A-And I'm not gay if that's what you mean. I kind of, um, I like everyone."
His dad sighs.
Mettaton knows what he's thinking. He's wondering why he can't have a normal son.
"I'm sorry," he repeats.
"I think it's time for you to start dressing like a boy."
"But-"
"No 'buts' you need to start dressing like a boy and stop wearing your mother's makeup."
He nods but he knows that the second his father leaves the room he's going to start sobbing.
His dad leaves. He buries his face in his pillow.
Mettaton can hear the front door slam. Napstablook is home. There's some talking, then footsteps coming up the stairs.
Someone is sitting on Mettaton's bed.
"Metta."
It's Napstablook.
Mettaton rolls over and sits up.
"I'm really sorry," he says, "That's really not fair at all."
Napstablook puts an arm over his cousin's shoulders.
"Is there anything I can do?"
"I don't know. Do you think they'll leave me alone if I get a girlfriend?"
"Do you want a girlfriend? Who's the last girl you even talked to?"
"No, and remember Shyren?"
"Yeah."
"Yeah."
He sighs. "Metta, what do you want?"
"I want to move out."
Napstablook frowns.
"But I mean, if you let me borrow some of your clothes, that would be fine."
"Yeah, okay."
He looks into Mettaton's eyes.
"Hey. It's gonna get better."
"You're like, twelve, how would you know?"
"I'm fifteen and trust me."
"Whatever."
