Sherry heard the shot from the front of the store and was immediately worried for her new guardian's safety. "Claire!  Please tell me you're okay!" In the back of the store, Claire was crouching with her hands over her head, narrowly dodging the shotgun blast from the store's owner, Robert Kendo. Claire's shorts were damp, in fear over nearly being killed. Kendo rushed to Claire, offering a hand of help. "I'm terribly sorry girly, I've gotten so used to shooting those monsters out there. I didn't mean to frighten you." Claire wanted to slap the guy silly, but got over the accident quickly. "Sherry, come on back, it's okay!" Sherry peeked her through the curtains. "Sherry, I believe this is Robert Kendo, owner of this gun shop."

Kendo confirmed it with a nod. "I really do apologize, and I didn't realize you had your daughter with you." Claire quickly corrected him. "She's not my daughter, just a girl I found along on the streets." Kendo went to sit back down. "That's terrible... Glad you picked her up." Sherry looked at Claire's shorts, with a wet spot on them clearly showing. Claire realized this and got embarrassed. "Sherry, it happens..." "It's okay Claire, it happened to me too." Kendo broke through the awkwardness. "Listen, you girls can stay for awhile, I'm a bit of a survival nut, I've got plenty of food and supplies, and a spare room in the back with a shower you can wash up in. Claire smiled, "Thanks, mister Kendo. Sherry, let's get you cleaned up."

Sherry jumped into the shower, while Claire washed her clothes in the sink. She jokingly asked Kendo, "No room for a washing machine in here, huh?" He chuckled. "'fraid not girly. I have some spare clothes the little girl can wear that belong to my daughter. She was out with my wife when this all started. I hope they're okay." Claire looked down at the clothes. "Me too...", half-thinking about her brother Chris.

Sherry got out the shower, going to the spare room where Claire was waiting. Claire had picked out kitty cat pajamas for Sherry. They were right up Sherry's style. "You look cute Sherry! Now it's my turn to get changed."

Evening fell, and Kendo had already fallen asleep. In the spare room, Sherry slept on Claire's lap. Claire couldn't sleep, too much on her mind. She thought to herself, "This poor girl... She's so scared and shy and quiet... I shouldn't judge though. My parents died at a young age. At least she has parents. It's always just been Chris and me. If he's hurt, or dead, I don't know what I'll do... I'm not as tough as I act, I know that. Chris has always been my rock and support."

Morning rose. Claire had managed to catch a few winks, but was up before Sherry. Things felt a little wet. "Did I..." It was Sherry. Claire felt really bad for the girl. Sherry started to stir, and saw Claire, making her smile immediately before the realization set in. "Oh Claire, I'm so sorry!" Claire calmed down. "It's okay Sherry, I was a bedwetter too, until I was 15 in fact! I still have accidents sometimes. It's nothing to be embarrassed about, I promise." Sherry relaxed. "Claire, I..." She wanted to say she loves Claire, but thought it would be too weird. "What is it Sherry?" "Nothing..."

After getting cleaned up and dressed, with Sherry donning a new outfit of jeans and a Lamb of God metal t-shirt, Kendo called them to the front of the store in a panicked tone. As they peered out the window at the mysterious towering monster, they were unsure of what was going to happen next.
