Long ago, demons and hellcreatures invaded earth. Though they nearly wiped out the humans, humans did as always: adapted. Hundreds of years later, the offspring of humans and demons is the norm. Alessandra lives in this world, and is entirely human. Finally, too late to the battle, the angels are determined to get rid of the demons once and for all. Alessandra, though caught in the midst of the battle, is the only hope for the humane side of the cambions...if it even exists anymore...

There's a burning sensation.

I didn't think wherever I would go in the afterlife would be so dark. Hell is fire, right? Fire and pain and misery.

This just feels like the scorching when Zadkiel healed my wounds.

But everything is still dark.

When I open my eyes, there are bright green eyes watching not me, really, but near me.

The pain intensifies, but I don't cry out.

Then it stops, and I sigh in relief. There are fuzzy voices talking, but I don't really care. I have only one thought.

I'm not dead, am I?

I groan, and the voices stop. I try to speak, but can't hear my own words.

Slowly, my senses come back, first hearing, then vision, then the rest.

"...What?" I slur.

"Alessandra," says a silky voice.

"Alessandra, you're okay," says...Even. Yes, Even; he's still here, and he sounds scared, but amazed.

"She will be. She was impaled with a rusty pipe. I recommend rest," says the smooth voice. "I will be following the others now."

Even gathers me in his arms and I can hear his rapid heartbeat, slowing.

"And her family is here, do not forget. The boy has been nagging Tariel."

"Lionel?" I ask. The face nods, and I recognize him as Raphael. Of course, the archangel known for healing.

My eyelids become heavy, and Raphael places his hand over my eyes and forehead. "Sleep, child."

I wake up in the mayor's office again, but I'm the only one awake.

I'm on the couch, Even propped up next to me, though he's on the floor. On the other couch is Lionel and Katherine.

Something outside the window catches my attention.

I gape in awe, even more than when I had seen Michael.

The's a rich shade of navy blue, with thousands of twinkling lights.

I smile.

I know these are stars.
